The Ground Systems Engineer (GSE) will assume an integral role in the development, integration, test and operations of the DigitalGlobe ground system, focusing on Mission Control components. The GSE will become an expert in one or more critical software components that ensure our ground system operates at peak performance. This position will work closely with teams of Collection Planners and Satellite Operators, Systems and Spacecraft Engineers, Test Engineers and Software Developers. The successful candidate will also aid in documenting the ground system and producing operational procedures and checklists. The Ground Systems Engineer may be required to work non-traditional hours (periodic launch or anomaly support) and be available to provide on-call support on an as-needed basis. The preferred candidate shall demonstrate the ability to work with minimal supervision and have excellent interpersonal communications skills and experience in working with vendors, subcontractors, and non-engineering personnel. This position requires the ability to diagnose and solve software and hardware integration level problems within operational systems.

Responsibilities          

• Provide ground engineering support of 24x7 Operations team, which may include occasional off-hours support
• Provide subject matter expertise to support system engineering, design and development  of new ground system components and capabilities
• Provide key support and take on responsibility for components within the ground system including system architecture, requirements development, vendor and contractor partnerships, performance verification, and troubleshooting / resolving all issues (software, hardware, design, & vendor compliance)
• Interface with, provide support to, and prioritize issues for equipment and system contractors
• Write, test, and maintain procedures for proper operation of ground system components
• Assist in and/or lead testing of ground system components, including test design, execution, and analysis of results
• Support software deployments and system anomalies

Basic Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Aerospace Engineering, Computer Science, Geographic Information Systems or related field.  Other educational backgrounds will be considered with sufficient relevant career experience.
• 5+ years of experience in operations and operations support
• Experience with one or more programming/scripting languages (ex. Ruby, Perl, C++, Java, Python)
• Experience with Linux and/or Unix
• United State citizenship and the ability to obtain and maintain government security clearance

Preferred Qualifications

• Strong skills in software design, development and troubleshooting highly desired
• Active Secret clearance
• Knowledge of spacecraft systems highly desired
• Experience with relational database
• Knowledge of service-oriented architecture basics
