What you'll do

Xero Graduate Engineers will participate in a rotation with various platform teams to integrate new ideas, provide their perspective, and grow as engineers. You'll experience firsthand how each team contributes to support our platform, and ensures that it is reliable, fast, and secure.

Graduate Engineers working for the platform teams will have the opportunity to create solutions that improve infrastructure and development. You'll interact with AWS, Windows Servers, Linux, SQL, and Postgres. Over the course of the program, you'll also become familiar with content delivery networks, load balancers and autoscaling, CI/CD pipelines, and infrastructure tools including Terraform and Docker.

You'll use your development skills in languages such as Python, Go, Javascript and C# to build solutions that make Xero's developers' lives easier. You'll rotate between four different teams - including cloud computing and product development teams - where you'll gain exposure to a variety of engineering disciplines. This will prepare you to find which team best suits you at the end of the year long graduate program.

What you bring

As part of the platform team, you'll be joining an agile engineering team that values diverse perspectives. That's why we welcome students with a range of qualifications. You'll be prepared to do the best work of your life in this position if you:

  • Enjoy solving problems and taking initiative
  • Love writing code, and want to develop your skills in various languages
  • Like working with servers and data
  • Find purpose in owning your work and changing the landscape
  • Accomplish your goals by working alone and collaborating with others
  • Look for the why in problems, products, and solutions rather than just the how
  • Are about to complete a university degree in computer science or engineering, or have acquired equivalent training

What we offer
As a member of the Xero Grad program, we invest in you. In addition to developing your technical skills, you'll receive ongoing coaching to develop vital soft skills such as working as part of a team, communicating through different mediums, and influencing others with your fresh perspective. Your growth will be recognized with biannual salary reviews, so your pay keeps up with what you're worth.

The Xero Grad program offers you an exciting opportunity to use and grow your newly acquired technical skills. This is a permanent gig that lets you dive head first into a comprehensive learning experience at a fast paced organization. So if you're about to finish your studies and are ready to launch your career, then the Graduate Platform Engineer role at Xero could be just for you.

How to apply

This opportunity is for students in the final year of their degree, or finishing off some type of study.

We need:

  • A copy of your resume, as well as links to anything else you want to show us, for example your Github profile or any personal projects you've been working on
  • A copy of your academic transcript; we know it won't be complete, so just send us everything you have thus far
  • Instead of a cover letter, in your online application we'll ask you to choose from several questions and tell us a bit about yourself and your thoughts on technology

Applications close on 14 February 2020.
