Daily you will:

  • Design, build and operate high quality systems under conditions of uncertainty and complexity. It is a startup :-)

  • Help others succeed through code reviews, thorough docs, technical guidance, and mentoring.

  • Balance tradeoffs in partnership with design and product teams to deliver strategic imperatives.

  • Lead by scoping and decomposing work into atomic, shippable components. Help inspire people to do their best work. 

  • Role Model Maxwell's core values, focus on understanding and living these values.

Our stack: RoR w/React/Redux running in Heroku and AWS. We are a Lean & Agile team working to move solidly to DevOps in 2019.

Our future: We are rapidly heading to our series A working within a $2.5 trillion market for making loans; in 2018 our platform helped closed $11 billion dollars in mortgages. We expect to double our team in 2019.

The details...

Mortgages are a cornerstone of our economy, and home ownership is a critical component of the ‘American Dream’. After going through the mortgage process themselves, our co-founders were shocked at how laborious and complex the mortgage process still is, for both borrowers and lenders. They saw an opportunity to improve this essential — albeit unglamorous — process, and thus,  Maxwell was born.

We’re committed to turning the tide of homeownership to be more accessible for all. Property ownership is a key facet of financial stability and wealth-building. Some would say it’s a requirement for a flourishing middle class. We believe it is, and we’re disrupting the mortgage status quo to make mortgages more simple and accessible for homeowners and more efficient and convenient for lenders.

Maxwell is an outstanding place to work for many reasons. Many of those reasons sound similar to what other tech companies will tell you — we’ve got solid (but not unbelievable) benefits, a great (and constantly improving) company culture, generous PTO, and so on. What are some things you learned at the company?

We have the chance to learn about all kinds of tech. On any given day, I might add features to our various Rails apps, update a .NET API layer to support some legacy software, or add to our component library using cutting-edge JS. Add a sprinkling of devops and some machine-learning experiments and the opportunities for growth are abundant!

Every quarter each team makes a Big Bet. The bar is high: a big investment that could fail, but if successful would be a step-function change for Maxwell. We all know we're here to innovate and own the future. So we celebrate failures along with wins. If we're not failing, we're not learning, and we're probably not winning either.
