We are looking for an energetic and dynamic engineering team lead to help build our core payments infrastructure and evolve our payment gateway integrations. You will help lead an existing team of experienced and ego-free software engineers to help ensure the continued success of our company and our engineering team during our rapid and international growth.

You are an experienced engineer and strong communicator who is comfortable working in a fast-paced environment with multiple languages/frameworks, and on multiple projects simultaneously. You have substantial experience designing and building high-quality, high-volume, reliable back-end systems, APIs, and web services in a fault-intolerant environment.

Our ideal candidate will have substantial prior team leadership experience, and will have experience working with payments systems and processors, and/or financial systems generally.

Responsibilities:

• Developing elegant and innovative features and capabilities for the Recurly platform that enable new payment methods and processors.
• Helping to define technical solutions, impacts and/or alternate approaches, and providing timeline estimates.
• Active participation in requirements and solution design sessions, working closely with stakeholders from across the entire organization.
• Working to test, QA, analyze, and address issues with products and features.
• Identifying, recommending, and helping to evolve technical and process best-practices.
• Collaborating with and informing cross-functional teams of new feature technical design, technical requirements, limitations, and implementation.
• Positive participation in an agile software development methodology.
• Articulating technical designs and project status to both technical and non-technical audiences.
• Continually refining business acumen and establish domain/industry vertical expertise.
• Constructive, supportive mentorship and coaching for junior team members, and collaborating positively and effectively with senior team members.

Requirements:  

• 10 years of software engineering experience.
• Extensive professional experience with enterprise Ruby and Rails applications.
• Experience working with JavaScript back-end services using Node.js.
• Experience designing, building, and scaling high-volume web services, gateways, and APIs.
• Substantial experience with SQL and relational database technologies.
• Prior successful experience leading teams of software developers and engineers.
• Proactive communicator with outstanding verbal and written communication skills.
• Self-motivated, with a drive and capacity to build, launch, iterate, and learn under pressure.
• Positive, solution-oriented, ego-free mindset.
• Bachelor’s Degree in computer science or a related field, or equivalent experience.

Desired skills and experience:

• Previous experience building payment and financial systems.
• Experience with front-end JavaScript frameworks and user interface design principles.
• Professional development experience with Golang.
• Professional development experience with Java.
