As an Engineering Manager at Virta, you will be leading a team of software engineers and partnering with product and business stakeholders to build, improve and scale Virta’s applications, tools, and workflows.

You will have an opportunity to focus and influence direction across all levels of our product to meet the rapidly changing needs of a growing company. You will also have the opportunity to take ownership of existing and new product areas that are central to the success of both our patients and mission.

Responsibilities

• Collaborate with product and cross-functional stakeholders to build, execute and evolve an impact-focused roadmap
• Manage, support, and mentor engineers
• Implement practices for team engagement, productivity, and performance
• Define roles; recruit, interview, and hire engineers
• Scope projects, set timelines, and motivate teams to execute 
• Bring the voice of engineering to team roadmaps; advocate for tech debt, scalable designs, and other technical KPIs to ensure ongoing performance and reliability of systems
• Collaborate with other managers to define technology and hiring strategy

90 Day Plan

Within your first 90 days at Virta, we expect you will do the following:

• Obtain a full understanding of Virta’s products, applications, and product development team structures
• Learn the ins and outs of our codebase and make contributions to Virta’s systems
• Get to know your team, understand their strengths, growth areas, career development goals, and build a hiring plan to ensure continued execution on your team’s roadmap
• Work with your team and cross-functional partners (product, design, operations, commercial) to re-evaluate your team’s 2021 roadmap/scope and either bless or republish based on your new perspective
• Establish strong working relationships with your peers across Virta’s engineering teams to understand and support their requirements
• Become a strong advocate for technical investments in your team’s roadmap, and join other leaders in championing technical excellence across product development

Must-Haves

• 5+ years of experience as a software engineer
• 3+ years of experience managing or providing technical leadership to engineering teams
• Experience building a diverse, inclusive engineering team, including recruiting, interviewing, and closing candidates
• Experience mentoring engineers, building career development plans, and managing performance to maintain a high-functioning team
• Expertise in web development and distributed systems. Able to provide technical guidance to teams
• Track record of partnering cross-functionally with product, design, and other stakeholders to build roadmaps and deliver quantifiable impact

Bonus Points

• Experience working in a regulated environment (HIPAA preferred; SOX, PCI also good)
• Experience managing or working on distributed teams
