Your Impact

Handshake is hiring an Engineering Manager, directly reporting to the Head of Student Engineering, to hire and lead a new Mobile Platforms engineering team. In this role, you will be defining the strategy for and leading the completion of objectives surrounding the quality, performance, and stability of our iOS app. You will also be involved in planning and executing the move of our Android development in-house. You will directly manage one team at first, with the mandate to help hire for and scale this platform team as it grows.

Your Role

We're focused on growing Handshake’s mobile presence, and ensuring that quality and performance stay high. We’re excited for you to work on:

  • Leading, coaching, and inspiring our mobile engineers within the organization
  • Motivating and ensuring the timely, quality-focused delivery of new features and projects
  • Ensuring the team’s growth by ensuring the right processes are in place, facilitating efficient communication, and hiring the right talent to fill in the gaps
  • Partnering closely with key stakeholders across Handshake, including Product Development in both the Student and Employer Teams, iOS engineers on Product squads, and others
  • Leading with empathy as you help us nurture a culture of growth, inclusion, and belonging

Your Experience

  • Proven track record in leading a team to ship features and products
  • Prior experience in managing distributed teams. The data team at Handshake is 100% remote
  • Experience managing high-output mobile engineers
  • Experience managing (or working closely with) high-volume consumer web applications
  • A background in iOS or Android engineering - the ability to understand the team’s technical challenges and architecture is the key to success
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Excellent people management skills, focusing on supporting empowerment
  • Passion for helping teams and individuals grow and for building an inclusive culture and diverse team
  • A in working with SwiftUI, UIKit, Snapkit, MVVM+C/MVC, Swift, XCTest, Fastlane, and more
  • Targeting iOS 13+
  • As a nice-to-have, experience with Handshake’s technical stack:
    • React
    • Redux
    • Typescript
    • Ruby on Rails
    • Postgres
    • Elasticsearch
    • Redis
    • Google Cloud Platform

Compensation Range

$154,660 - $176,000
