Your Impact

Handshake is hiring an Engineering Manager to lead, build our Cloud team. In this role, you will be leading and helping to implement our SRE practice that is focused on optimizing our existing services, building infrastructure and eliminate work through automation, focus on observability and resiliency. We are looking for an experienced Engineering Manager who can lead, grow, and mentor our site reliability engineers.

Your Role

We’re excited for you to work on:

  • Leading, coaching, and inspiring our engineers within the organization.

  • Ensuring that our infrastructure meets security, availability, and performance requirements.

  • Developing a self-service infrastructure platform for our engineers.

  • Leading, coaching, and inspiring our engineers within the organization.

  • Motivating and ensuring the timely, quality-focused delivery of new features and projects.

  • Ensuring the team’s growth by ensuring the right processes are in place, facilitating efficient communication, and hiring the right talent to fill in the gaps.

  • Partnering closely with key stakeholders across Handshake, including Security, Data, and Product Development.

  • Leading with empathy as you help us nurture a culture of growth, inclusion, and belonging.

  • Developing monitoring tooling across the stack, and optimizing systems for uptime, performance, and reliability based on the data gathered by this tooling

  • Ensuring the team’s growth by ensuring the right processes are in place, facilitating efficient communication, and hiring the right talent to fill in the gaps.

  • Partnering closely with key stakeholders across Handshake, including Design, Product Management, and Customer Support.

  • Leading with empathy as you help us nurture a culture of growth, inclusion, and belonging.

  • Partnering with engineering teams across Handshake to understand their needs and build easy to use services.

Your Experience

  • Proven track record in leading a team to ship features and products.

  • 2-5 years of experience managing high-output engineers in Operations or Infrastructure Engineering.

  • Prior experience managing distributed teams.

  • A background in Infrastructure engineering- the ability to understand the team’s technical challenges and architecture is the key to success.

  • Familiarity with cloud technologies (AWS, GCP, etc.).

  • Strong knowledge in Kubernetes

  • Strong experience in Terraform

  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal.

  • Excellent people management skills, focusing on supporting empowerment.

  • Understanding of Agile methodologies.

  • Reliabilty-focused mindset.

  • Passion for helping teams and individuals grow and for building an inclusive culture and diverse team.

  • As a nice-to-have, experience with Handshake’s technical stack:

    • Redux

    • Typescript

    • Ruby on Rails

    • Postgres

    • Elasticsearch

    • Redis

    • Google Cloud Platform

Compensation Range

$166,725 - 195,000

Final offer amounts are determined by multiple factors, including geographic location as well as candidate experience and expertise, and may vary from the amounts listed above.
