Engineer II – SSA Algorithm Development
What you'll do:
•Support the design and development of algorithmic models to predict performance of real-time systems.
•Support the architecture, design, and development of algorithms, software and hardware systems for a variety of applications including data processing systems supporting Space Situational Awareness (SSA), rendezvous and proximity operations, open and closed loop tracking, image processing, uncorrelated track determination, Initial Orbit Determination (IOD), Orbit Determination (OD), Astrometric and Photometric processing, Space Object Identification, maneuver detection, and/or conjunction analysis.
•Develop and communicate mission level understanding
•Perform system engineering and modeling & simulation for SSA missions
•Maintain a regular and predictable work schedule.
•Establish and maintain effective working relationships within the department, the Strategic Business Units, Strategic Support Units and the Company. Interact appropriately with others in order to maintain a positive and productive work environment.
•Perform other duties as necessary.
What you'll need:
•BS degree or higher in Engineering, or a related technical field is required plus 5 or more years related experience.
•Each higher-level degree, i.e., Master's Degree or Ph.D., may substitute for two years of experience. Related technical experience may be considered in lieu of education. Degree must be from a university, college, or school which is accredited by an agency recognized by the US Secretary of Education, US Department of Education.
•Degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Math, or Physics preferred.
•MS or PhD preferred.
•Mission data processing experience in Space Situational Awareness (SSA) / Space Control
•Expertise in processing SSA raw data through actionable products (including astrometric and photometric products)
•Strong algorithm development expertise in Image Processing and/or Track Processing
•Understanding and/or experience with embedded systems
•Understanding and/or experience with phenomenology
•Significant experience with Matlab required
•Experience with GPU, FPGA, and/or cluster processing implementations desired
•Python experience desired
•Background in Initial Orbit Determination and/or Orbit Determination desired
•Ability to operate at the system level and interface to all engineering disciplines.
•Self -starter, good interpersonal and communication skills, ability to work independently and on a team.
•Strong written communication skills, oral presentation skills and an ability to lead group discussions.
•Prior experience working in and with controlled, classified security environments is highly desirable.
Working Conditions:
•Work is performed in an office, laboratory, production floor, or clean room, outdoors or remote research environment.
•May occasionally work in production work centers where use of protective equipment and gear is required.
•May access other facilities in various weather conditions.
•Travel and local commute between Ball campuses and other possible non-Ball locations may be required.
A current DoD clearance and/or SCI access with Polygraph is not required to be eligible for this position, however applicant must be willing and eligible for submission within 60-90 days after an offer is accepted and must be able to maintain the applicable clearance/access. Compensation & Benefits
- HIRING SALARY RANGE: $102,000 - $126,500 (Salary to be determined by the education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities of the applicant, internal equity, and alignment with market data.)
