Engineer I – GPU Algorithm Development Engineer
What you'll do:
•Design and develop algorithmic models to predict performance of real-time systems hosted on GPUs. Sample algorithms include image processing, clutter suppression, detection, estimation, open and closed loop tracking, uncorrelated track determination, Target Object Mapping, Initial Orbit Determination (IOD) and/or Orbit Determination (OD).
•Develop real-time image/track/sensor resource management processing algorithms for GPUs using temporal, spatial, and/or spectral processing of EO/IR data
•Develop and optimize Artificial Intelligence / Deep Learning algorithms
•Support the architecture, design, and development of embedded algorithms, software and hardware systems for a variety of applications including mission data processing systems for Remote Sensing, and/or Space Situational Awareness / Rendezvous and Proximity Operations
•Develop and communicate mission level understanding
•Perform system engineering and modeling & simulation for Remote Sensing / SSA missions
•Maintain a regular and predictable work schedule.
•Establish and maintain effective working relationships within the department, the Strategic Business Units, Strategic Support Units and the Company. Interact appropriately with others in order to maintain a positive and productive work environment.
•Perform other duties as necessary.
What you'll need:
•BS degree or higher in Engineering is required plus 2 or more years related experience. MS or PhD degree is preferred.
•Each higher-level degree, i.e., Master's Degree or Ph.D., may substitute for two years of experience. Related technical experience may be considered in lieu of education. Degree must be from a university, college, or school which is accredited by an agency recognized by the US Secretary of Education, US Department of Education.
•Degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Applied Math, Physics, Aerospace or a related technical field is preferred.
•Experience with computational science and/or applying advanced math skills to engineering problems
•Ability to solve new algorithm challenges and generate high level code to develop and analyze algorithm performance with limited guidance
•Significant experience with Matlab, Python, or C++
•Significant experience with Matlab GPU Coder, CUDA, OpenCL, Vulkan, or other GPU coding application
•Desired experience in at least one of the following areas: ◦Track Processing and/or Image Processing
◦Artificial Intelligence / Deep Learning
◦Mission data processing experience in OPIR and/or Space Situational Awareness (SSA) / Space Control is desired
◦Data Processing for Remote Sensing or SSA raw data through actionable products
◦GPU, FPGA, and/or High Performance Computing (cluster) processing implementations
◦Initial Orbit Determination and/or Orbit Determination / 3D trajectory estimation
•Understanding and/or experience with implementation of embedded systems desired
•Understanding and/or experience with phenomenology desired
•Ability to operate at the system level and interface to all engineering disciplines.
•Self -starter, good interpersonal and communication skills, ability to work independently and on a team.
•Strong written communication skills, oral presentation skills and an ability to lead group discussions.
•Prior experience working in and with controlled, classified security environments is highly desirable.
•Work is performed in an office, laboratory, production floor, or clean room, outdoors or remote research environment.
•May occasionally work in production work centers where use of protective equipment and gear is required.
•May access other facilities in various weather conditions.
• Travel and local commute between Ball campuses and other possible non-Ball locations may be required.
A current DoD clearance and/or SCI access with Polygraph is not required to be eligible for this position, however applicant must be willing and eligible for submission within 60-90 days after an offer is accepted and must be able to maintain the applicable clearance/access. Compensation & Benefits
- HIRING SALARY RANGE: $84,000 - $104,000 (Salary to be determined by the education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities of the applicant, internal equity, and alignment with market data.)
