Electrical Engineer

As an Electrical Engineer at Tortuga, you’ll be core to the development of our robotic harvesting hardware. You’ll work on all aspects of the custom electrical systems of our robots including power, computers and microcontrollers, actuators, cameras and other sensors, lighting, and communications. You’ll bring expertise building real hardware, integrating those systems with custom PCB and cable designs to help us add functionality, increase performance, and lower the cost of our robots. You enjoy a rapid development environment with a broad mix of detailed design work, bench level testing, and hands-on debugging of robots to support our current fleet and next gen R&D efforts.

What you’ll do:
Work closely with our principal EE as a member of our small and fast-paced hardware engineering team
Perform system engineering, schematic capture, and board layout for various systems such as battery management, power, I/O, lighting, actuators, sensors, and microcontrollers
Design cables for interconnecting PCBAs and off-the-shelf components
Component selection, power budgeting
Prototype and bench test new designs, develop test stands and procedures for production boards
Debug and develop solutions for electrical issues on robots such as EMI/EMC
Some low level firmware development
Travel to the field approximately 10% of the time
What we’re looking for:
Required: 3-5 years experience in design-to-commercialization of custom electronics
Required: B.S. Electrical Engineering or relevant degree
Strongly Preferred: Prior experience with robotics/mechatronics with complex custom board designs
Strongly Preferred: Prior experience with minimizing EMI/EMC with custom and off-the-shelf electronics is a plus
Prior experience with Altium Designer is a plus
Startup experience is a major plus
Strong communication skills
The base salary range below represents the low and high end of our salary range for this position. Actual salaries may vary and may be above or below the range based on various factors including but not limited to experience, education, responsibilities, and regular and/or necessary travel. Denver area base salary range: $80,000 - $115,000 per year.
