Position Description

Techtonic is looking for a Director of Software Development with leadership, delivery, design, and hands-on coding experience to lead our software development organization.  You will be responsible for providing technical leadership for a variety of client projects.   This position directs the establishment and ongoing maintenance and improvement of consistent procedures, metrics and development methodologies.  Routinely interfaces with other senior leaders and members of the technology team as well as sales and the Apprenticeship team.  Duties include managing and developing staff, capacity planning, fiscal accountability.   

Responsibilities

• Direct the software development and release process with the goal of delivering software releases on time, on budget, with high quality and according to agreed-up scope.
• Direct the day-to-day activities of the development teams.
• Ensures high quality in developed applications through documentation, client communication and management of release processes.
• Ensure successful transition of apprentices from the Techtonic Apprenticeship Program in the team and onto client projects.
• Partner with the Apprenticeship Program to guide curriculum, success metrics, and overall evaluation of talent as they transition out of the classroom.
• Collaborate with other technology managers, senior management, and extended staff on project status and related project information.
• Ensure appropriate resources are identified, hired, and retained.  
• Learn new ways to build amazing software, systems, and people by actively participating in a culture of Collaboration, Innovation, Delivery, and Caring.
• Help establish a diverse and inclusive organization fostering a positive, supportive, and fun work environment while providing an opportunity for team members to try new roles and take on new responsibilities.

Qualifications

• Previous experience in a consulting services organization with scope, budget, and client satisfaction responsibilities.
• The ability to build people and teams through servant leadership and collaborative work practices.
• Recent, hands-on coding experience with JavaScript AND Java or Python is a requirement for this position.
• Ability to present complex technical  ideas to internal and external audiences.
• Experience in test-driven development strategies and applications such as BDD Requirements and/or System Verification.
• Delivering software in a CI/CD and multiple environment configurations. 
• Ability to deliver projects in an Agile, Lean, or Kanban format.
• Prior microservices experience.
• Experience with a variety of cloud-based systems and technologies.
• Design architecture and patterns experience.
• 5+ years of experience leading highly collaborative software development teams.
• 8-10 years of hands-on full stack Software Engineering experience.
