The Director of Quality Assurance is responsible for the overall software quality program at Workiva. This includes establishing and maintaining a Quality Governance Framework that encompasses Quality Assurance (QA) strategy, processes, platforms, and resources needed to deliver 24x7 operationally critical solutions.
This position will interface daily with business leaders, product leaders, and engineering managers in addition to facilitating quality related Communities of Practice (CoPs) and champion quality best practices. 
What You'll Do: 
People Leadership:

  • Contributes to building a strong sustainable organization with high levels of employee engagement by attracting and developing superior talent and rewarding superior performance of teams and individuals
  • Provides SDETs and Quality Assurance Analysts with coaching, feedback, and developmental opportunities including leadership development to enhance their skills, motivation, and performance
  • Establishes and maintains relationships and effectively communicates with customers, business unit leaders and senior management to raise visibility and ensure collaboration with appropriate key stakeholders
  • Demonstrates the charisma and assessment capability to attract top talent
  • Ensures employee education, growth and evaluation of professional development

QA/ Operations Management:

  • Creates and implements a Quality Governance Framework that will drive measurable improvement of downtime and scale of our core features and products.
  • Responsible for establishment and enforcement of Quality Principles for R&D.
  • Evangelizes and recommends quality resources and staffing levels to effectively deliver superior products of excellent quality
  • Provides leadership and guidance for best practices in testing procedures
  • Monitors scope and coverage of tests and enforces testing standards
  • Identifies, implements and effectively deploys QA processes and tools throughout the organization to deliver value broadly into business and technology departments while improving speed to market and quality of solutions
  • Establishes and implements key performance metrics to create ownership/accountability for QA processes and communicates benefits delivered through engineering and quality efforts
  • Collaborates with business and technology teams to identify cross-functional staffing solutions to QA efforts throughout the testing life cycle
  • Conduct audits and reviews of quality related policies, procedures and best practices within engineering teams
  • Develops, recommends and communicates end to end strategy for enterprise-wide QA function consisting of people, process and technology
  • Designs and implements cross-functional QA practices to effectively support an Agile environment
  • Delivers testing capabilities which support all phases of testing and software development life cycle

What You'll Need: 

  • B.A./B.S. degree in business, management, or technology-related area, or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • 15+ years of experience in Quality Assurance
  • 5+ years of experience in a software products company
  • Experience in coding languages is a plus
  • Previous leadership experience preferred
  • Participation in quality related organizations and Quality Certifications are highly regarded
  • Knowledge and experience working as a leader in an agile development environment
  • Excellent knowledge of manual and automated testing
    Proven and strong understanding of different software development life cycles and contemporary software quality assurance processes
    Strong skills with automation testing tools (i.e. Selenium, Load Runner, SoapUI, TestingWhiz) preferred
    Excellent, proven verbal and written communication skills
    Excellent human relations and customer service skills
  • Ability to travel 25% of time
