Wowza Media Systems is currently seeking a Director of Engineering to lead Wowza teams around the world building and delivering our leading live streaming platform to tens of thousands of global customers. The ideal candidate will have a track record of building top performing engineering teams that deliver cloud native software solutions to create lasting business value. You will lead a development team and retain and attract great engineers hungry to roll up their sleeves and solve tough streaming video and large-scale SaaS problems. Experience building highly scalable, resilient services is a must, and in the video and audio streaming industry is a plus.
What you will do:
Lead and coach team members, and work with leaders across engineering to create efficient and effective organizational structures and processes for Wowza's current and future product and service suite
Ensure execution on Wowza's technical vision for sustainable quality and reliability for our customers.
Act as a thought partner for engineering, product, marketing, sales, finance, business operations, and other functional groups at Wowza.
Partner closely with the product team and our architects to provide clear direction and prioritization to the engineering team, so we accelerate delivery of the right products for our customers
Contribute to the strategic direction of the business and understand how your teams will deliver against those goals and objectives
Establish, lead, and energize programs that mentor and coach developers to develop their careers, identify strengths, and promote a culture of continuous development and learning
Build upon our existing team-oriented culture, with a strong focus on creating a working environment that fosters creativity, open communication, accountability, and professional growth
Engage in continuous performance management to coach, recognize, celebrate and inspire excellence while clearly communicating expectations and holding teams accountable
Take initiative to explore, create, evangelize, and implement innovative technologies and methodologies when appropriate to advance the business
Lead the day-to-day operations of an engineering team to consistently deliver world-class products that solve customer problems and create business value
Manage Wowza outsource partner(s), providing clear direction and measurements of success
Work closely with the leaders in engineering and product to define long-term engineering vision and strategy
Improve the metrics that we use to communicate and drive results, and continuous improvements in engineering quality, efficiency and performance, to align with department and corporate visions and objectives
Facilitate coordination across multiple development teams and disciplines such as product, support, marketing and sales
Hold your own in technical discussions, become a subject matter expert, and have strategic influence
The ideal candidate would have:
Prior experience leading SaaS cloud deployments at scale, building and growing DevOps teams, and driving automation and quality in a CI/CD environment.
10+ years of experience in engineering or software development, with a minimum 6 years of experience leading multiple teams of engineers. Prior experience in high-tech, start up, cloud native environments during periods of rapid growth.
Exceptional leadership and communication skills with proven results in developing and managing high-performing teams
Strong interpersonal skills, and high EQ, with the ability to build rapport with a wide variety of constituents and inspire others to be great
Experience successfully delivering customer value using CI/CD, automated testing, and IAgile methodologies.
Excellent problem solving skills and creativity
Experience driving a 24/7/365 mindset and service offerings across single or multiple cloud providers with very high availability and resiliency
Strong technical background in video streaming technologies, services and software
The ability to work well cross-functionally and with remote personnel
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field
Compensation and Benefits
Salary: $190,000 - $210,000

The base salary range represents the anticipated low and high end of our salary range for this position. Actual salaries will vary and will be based on various factors, such as candidate's qualifications, skills, and competencies. The salary is one component of our total compensation package for employees.
