Director of Engineering - Future Architectures
As Director of Engineering for Future Architectures, you will lead a growing team to architect new solutions that will address future Space Destinations customer needs. You'll work with Space Destinations leadership to develop strategies and engage with potential customers to propose solutions and shape future program opportunities. You will support proposal efforts and lead early program studies by developing technical solutions, technical maturations plans, cost basis of estimates and other necessary artifacts. Your team will develop solutions based on existing Sierra Space technologies and systems, perform system trades, propose new system architectures, and provide inputs on Sierra Space technology roadmaps to enable future system. You will guide team tasking, manage personnel and budgets, and support career growth of your team.
Sierra Space, based in Louisville, Colorado with operations in Madison, Wisconsin, Durham, North Carolina, and Kennedy Space Center, Florida, designs and manufactures advanced spacecraft, satellites, propulsion and environmental systems, spacecraft subsystems and components for the U.S. government (including NASA), commercial customers and international organizations. Must-haves:• Bachelor's of Science degree in Engineering, Computer Science, Mathematics, Physics or a related field• 15 or more years of relevant experience
o A higher level degree may substitute for experience
o Relevant experience may substitute for required education• Proven ability to work with department-level business leaders and to provide leadership within the workplace• Progressive experience in all phases of design lifecycle management to include: requirements, design, integration, test, and sustainment• Possess advanced technical knowledge and experience, working knowledge of industry trends and historical context• Strong organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills, including the ability to clearly express technical concepts in verbal and written forms; ability to tailor conversations to adapt to technical vs. non-technical audiences
Preferred:• Breadth of experience in spaceflight and spacecraft systems, with depth in one or more subsystems such as propulsion, software, avionics, communications, sensors, electrical, structures and mechanisms, thermal management, GN&C, C&DH, TT&C, and payloads• Advanced knowledge and understanding of industry best practices and techniques for program management, science, and engineering programs• Proven experience and skills in team building, time management, conflict resolution, communication, briefing, presentation, and strategic thinking• Proven leadership abilities inclusive of successful change management, mentoring, career development, training, succession planning, holding people accountable, and conducting yearly reviews• Experience establishing strategic relationships and agreements with partners and customers• Ability to understand, organize, plan, and execute design and/or modifications in accordance's with Sierra Space policies/procedures, work instructions and specific customer requirements.• Master's Degree• Model Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) experience• The ability to obtain and maintain a Security Clearance may be required Learn more about the background check process for Security Clearances

Estimated Starting Salary Range: $186,100.35 - $255,887.98
Sierra Space offers annual incentive pay based upon performance that is commensurate with the level of the position.
