How you'll make an impact


As Development Manager, you'll be responsible for leading, growing and managing effective and high performing engineering teams that deliver value to Xero and our customers. 


You’ll work closely with product management, delivery leads and business stakeholders to ensure that systems are fit for purpose, align to technical roadmaps, have a clear direction for the future and are able to meet the solution level objectives. You’ll also build relationships with other technical leads at Xero, to share ideas and best practice, as well as maintain close alignment with the wider company.


You’ll know you’ve made an impact when the teams deliver valuable high-quality software quickly and consistently to our customers; and Xero continues to be a world-class place for engineers to work.


What you'll do

  • Look after the needs of multiple teams and your direct reports
  • Advocate for technical excellence to be included in team’s roadmaps and ensure your teams are actively contributing to the product’s architectural vision
  • Work closely with product managers and stakeholders to agree on priorities and resources for any required architectural or engineering requirements
  • Using performance metrics and data to build accountability, ownership and support the technical and product vision into your teams
  • Manage dependencies and remove blockers for your teams
  • Cultivate a fun, rewarding, agile and results-driven culture that lives and breathes our Xero values

Through her ERG involvement, Rowe has gained a greater understanding of her peers’ diverse life experiences and skill sets while fostering dialogue related to topics that are often avoided in the workplace, such as women’s health. “It’s been a great way to help other women grow their careers and create a safe space for hard conversations,” she said.

Not only has she grown personally due to this role, but it’s also encouraged her to engage with other engineering teams in an effort to better understand her peers’ needs. She’s currently helping plan an event that will enable Indigenous people to share their unique stories with others in the company.

For instance, he recently took part in a scoping session in order to develop a road map for diverse hiring practices.
