The role

The AV Test Operations Engineer will report to the Director of System Integration and Test and will be responsible for the providing engineering test support for the growing test operations at two different autonomous vehicle test sites. The successful candidate will be up for an engineering challenge to keep multiple test assets and teams operating by debugging incoming issues during ever-changing test and development efforts.

Duties and Responsibilities

    • Establish and iterate upon test operations escalation path and processes
    • Support multiple shifts of operations at two to three different test sites
    • Execute critical tests at different sites
    • Cover escalations from dispatchers at all sites and act as a primary contact between dispatch teams and engineering teams
    • Triage issues based on company goals, engineering needs, and upcoming milestones
    • Feed all results back to relevant teams
    • Facilitate customer demonstrations
    • Support multiple engineering teams through development of test plans and procedures against system requirements, and development of test harnesses and fixtures
    • Support the cross-discipline development, design, integration, and test engineers throughout the engineering organization to ensure vehicle-level testing is... good.
    • Review bug reports, track bugs to a subsystem, identify corner cases, and work with cross-discipline teams to re-test fixes
    • Understand and help prioritize test exceptions and help drive toward a product that meets all customer, business, and technical expectations
    • Partner with other engineering teams to trial site setup procedures, field reporting strategies, and data ingestion processes
    • Debug hardware and software interfaces/interactions during design, pilot, and field deployment
    • Ensure system is characterized across a host of environments
    • Commit to travel and perform field work, depending on initial customer locations (up to 25%)

Required Qualifications

    • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, electrical/electronics or mechatronics engineering, or equivalent
    • Strong organization skills
    • Test, debug, and system engineering mindset
    • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
    • Exceptional analytical skills
    • Demonstrated leadership and people skills
    • Comfort with Linux and command line, bug tracking software, and root cause analysis

Ideal Qualifications

    • Experience with robotics software engineering, autonomous vehicle systems, computer vision, machine learning, and/or planning and controls
    • Familiarity with C/C++, ROS, and Python
    • Experience working on complex system of systems
