The role

The Vehicle Technician will be familiar with heavy truck systems, including pneumatic brakes, tire/replacement wear and periodic maintenance checks. The role will report to the Vehicle Lead Engineer and collaborate with the technical team to design, develop, test and build prototype and production-quality products and test equipment. The technician’s work output will be useful and valuable throughout the customer lifecycle, from initial demonstration to pilot tests to scaled deployments in the world's biggest freight transportation hubs.

 

This position requires exceptional mechanical skills – the technician will be responsible for developing and supporting equipment that helps the team deliver safe, error-free, and effective autonomous vehicle systems for the world's largest companies.

Duties and responsibilities

    • Install sensors, electronics and cabling on vehicles with minimal guidance
    • Work directly with the hardware engineering team to develop and build hardware test fixtures
    • Work with engineering to refine system designs 
    • Maintain and repair vehicle systems
    • Develop and document assembly and test procedures
    • Support field testing, both locally and at remote customer sites
    • Periodically test vehicle operation

Required qualifications

    • Automotive/Heavy Truck maintenance and repair experience
    • Diagnostic Troubleshooting experience on vehicle systems
    • Proficiency with shop tools and metal fabrication
    • Associate degree or equivalent experience
    • Obvious curiosity about and interest in autonomous vehicle technology
    • Unwavering focus on safety and helping to explore and implement system improvements
    • Contagious energy and enthusiasm
    • Willingness to travel (up to 25%)
    • Sterling references

Ideal qualifications

    • Willingness and ability to obtain a Class A commercial driver's license (CDL)
    • Personal, professional or academic exposure to autonomous vehicles
    • Mechanical CAD experience (especially SolidWorks)
    • Automotive or trucking industry experience
    • Familiar with electronic test equipment such as oscilloscopes, DMMs, signal generators, and power supplies
    • Test software development background (Python or C++ preferred)
