We are seeking an Aerodynamic Stability & Control Engineer to join the aero team, and support Flight Test & Design Activities. You will be supporting flight control systems development, predicting handling qualities and performance, comparing test results to predictions, and maintaining and improving aerodynamic models. You will also be supporting the flight test activities of the upcoming XB1 demonstrator & related Pilot-In-The-Loop simulations.

A typical day at work would be:

  • Evaluating aircraft design changes (mostly to the Flight Control Systems) to improve handling qualities
  • Defining system specifications for primary Flight Control Systems
  • Developing tools to evaluate handling qualities and performance
  • Real time test support of simulator and in flight tests
  • Reduction of simulator or flight test data to verify handling qualities and performance
  • Presentation of test results and recommendations to the engineering and test organizations
  • Some aircraft performance analysis
  • Processing CFD results into a force and moment database

Requirements:

  • Solid foundations in aerodynamics, aircraft handling qualities & their relation to primary flight controls systems
  • Excellent computer programming skills, with solid experience in Matlab / Simulink
  • Have basic understanding of aircraft performance & related analysis methodology
  • Relevant engineering Bachelor's Degree
  • Effective communication skills

Would be nice to have:

  • Experience operating in a structured flight test environment, including monitoring real-time data in Telemetry
  • Reducing flight test and simulator data sets
  • Supporting experimental flight tests in real time
  • Planning flight tests to gather S&C data
  • Verification of handling qualities against Part 25 or MIL-STD-1797
  • Communicating complex technical results to a wide audience
  • Creating new scripts and figures using Matlab
  • Tool automation using Python
  • Post-processing CFD results into loads databases
  • Working hands on with aircraft
