Role Description
The Dropbox editorial team is looking for an accomplished editor, writer, and content strategist to manage the Dropbox tech blog and contribute to Work in Progress.
Play a key role in shaping public perception of Dropbox—particularly among potential technical hires—and help promote our latest products and features through engaging, narrative-driven stories. Be a strategic partner in creating and distributing our editorial content and measuring its impact on brand perception.
Collaborate closely with teams across the company—including communications, engineering, marketing, legal, and brand—to support the ambitious, innovative work we do for our customers. Gain a deeper understanding of how products are built and launched, exposure to company leaders and decision-makers, and the opportunity to directly influence the success of high-profile marketing moments and events.
Responsibilities
- Assign, edit, and publish stories on our tech blog (dropbox.tech) that demonstrate our technical expertise and help us attract top talent
- Write articles for Work in Progress (blog.dropbox.com) that bring our brand’s story to life
- Build close relationships with our engineering teams, enlist a diverse network of internal contributors, and manage the tech blog content calendar
- Solicit feedback and obtain approvals from stakeholders (including senior leaders) across the company as necessary
- Nurture the writing and reporting skills of our engineers and content strategists
- Help devise and implement strategies for distributing content and measuring results
- Maintain a high standard of editorial craft and style across everything we publish
Requirements
- 4-8 years of experience in either tech journalism or editorial content strategy at a tech company
- As an editor, you’ve edited and managed other writers; as a writer, you have a stellar portfolio of engaging narrative storytelling
- A proven track record of translating complex technical processes for people of diverse levels of understanding; you can just as easily help an engineer describe the intricacies of our 400G networking infrastructure to other engineers as a non-technical audience
- Excellent communication skills and and a collaborative spirit; you know how to solicit and reconcile feedback from a wide range of stakeholders, and can work across teams to develop thought-provoking content that supports company priorities
- Organized and process-oriented; you know how to set deadlines and run a content calendar, but can also be flexible when plans change
- A deep understanding of technology and a curiosity for how it impacts the way we live, communicate, and work
Preferred Qualifications
- You’ve edited tech/engineering blog posts for other companies before
- Basic experience designing and/or maintaining websites (including content management system administration)
