JOB SUMMARY
The Designer for Charter's Backbone and Optical Line Terminal (OLT) sizing creates various design packages related to fiber trunk/backbone assignments to existing and future nodes/OLTs. The designer may also lay out new areas planned for Charter's network expansion and setup OLT areas based on Charter's current architecture and guidelines. The Designer will leverage Geographic Information System (GIS) data and internal design records to plan and design their package based on Charter Communications' and Charter Field Operations' standards and specifications. The Designer will also leverage GIS tools, databases and Office Suite applications to analyze and model data required for specific requests.
The Designer is expected to work across functional and organizational boundaries and works closely with these teams: Charter Design, Charter Technical Operations and Charter Construction to develop design solutions and processes to support new equipment specifications utilizing applicable Design theory.
Responsibilities include but are not limited to: GIS data acquisition, analysis and design, Network Planning and Design for Trunk/Backbone and Fiber to the Home (FTTH) Architectures. The Designer will also provide design deliverables to facilitate Broadband Grant Applications and ensure overall Fiber Network documentation is maintained and accurate.

MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Actively and consistently support all efforts to simplify and enhance the customer experience.
- Produce Network Boundaries for existing and future FTTH network deployments.
- Produce Network designs in support of local network's fiber trunk/backbone networks utilizing various design software programs.
- Utilize various GIS and CAD software programs (i.e., ArcGIS Pro, Google Earth, Magellan) to digitize and design in accordance with the Charter Communications digitizing standards and specifications.
- Ensure all proposed designs and solutions are compatible with existing design platforms and environments.
- Maintain a strong knowledge of industry and emerging technology trends and share that knowledge cross-functionally with peers, other Design Groups and Constructions teams as required.
- Perform quality control checks on production designs and/or map digitizing as required, to ensure all drafting specifications and fiber
- Contribute to project coordination and perform administrative functions by maintaining associated records, providing reports as necessary and processing related invoices.
- Schedule work assignments, monitor project workflow and maintain accurate weekly production reports.
- Maintain a strong knowledge of drafting tools such as ESRI/ArcGIS Pro, Magellan, etc. and be able to apply design principles and knowledge as required.
- Adhere to industry specific local, state, and federal regulations, as applicable.
- Know, understand and follow company policy.
- Perform other duties as required to meet Corporate and Departmental goals and objectives - the needs of the business.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
Skills/Abilities and Knowledge
- Knowledge and application with GIS tools (e.g., ESRI/ArcGIS and/or MapInfo, Google Earth)
- Ability to analyze and interpret data
- Ability to read, write, speak and understand the English language
- Proficient Spatial/GIS ability in applications such as ESRI/ArcGIS Pro and Google Earth
- Knowledge of process and project management
- Ability to make decisions and solve problems while working under pressure
- Ability to prioritize and organize effectively
- Ability to show judgment and initiative to accomplish goals & objectives
- Strong knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel and Power Point.
- Demonstrate a working knowledge of design standards for Coax & Fiber design.
- Knowledge of fiber optic systems, including but not limited to FTTH systems
- Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusion to apply business analytical trending support of departmental/company goals
- Knowledge of general accounting and billing procedures
- Knowledge of company products and services
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Skills /Abilities and Knowledge
- Advanced knowledge and application of Fiber to the Home (FTTH) and Hybrid Fiber Coaxial (HFC) architectures.
- Advanced knowledge of Charter Communications' Magellan application would be beneficial
- Knowledge of company products and services.
Education
- Bachelor's degree in engineering, computer science, Geographical Information Systems or related field or equivalent experience
Related Work Experience
- 1+ year experience with HFC and/or Fiber Network design
- 2+ years GIS experience in ArcGIS Pro and/or MapInfo Systems
- 2+ years industry or telecommunications experience
- Certifications and/or Licenses (Preferred, not required) Industry and vendor specific certifications and training a plus (ESRI, HFC Design, Spatial info, Bentley COMMS, Lode Data or GE Smallworld, NCTI, SCTE, BCT/E)
