Kapost’s mission is to enable marketers to connect more authentically with their customers through content. We do this by building a single platform that lets our customers plan marketing campaigns, collaborate on content across teams, and measure the value of the work that they do. Our platform is used by some of the best B2B brands in the world like GE Digital, IBM, Salesforce, Adobe, and LinkedIn.

Opportunity
We’re looking for an experienced designer to work across teams to define a design system that will unify the experience of our products and customer touch points. The mission is to reduce the tech debt incurred from one-off designs and deliver beautiful, predictable, cohesive user experiences that obscure organizational boundaries and tech stacks. The role will begin by building and understanding what design and technical constraints led to deviations and workarounds in the past and will grow to operationalize the system for use for years to come.

It’s an exciting time at Kapost and it’s a rare opportunity to join a team that is nimble and poised to deliver on its mission. The team is already doing great work, but we know there is a lot more to be done. With a strong design advocate on the leadership team, we’ve never before been more empowered to design impactful and beautiful solutions for our customers.

Kapost is a great place for designers to work because we’re actively building design as one of our core competencies. Our goal is for design to be in our DNA.

What you’ll be doing

  • You’ll be establishing, building, and maintaining a unique, flexible, and sustainable library of shared components. You’ll lead the visual direction and will be partnering with the Front-End Architect to define the technical direction.
  • You’ll define and direct the scope of the system’s concerns in partnership with the Director of Design.
  • You’ll operationalize the system by identifying necessary tooling with input from the design and engineering teams to make adoption easy. For example, you’ll build assets in Sketch and partner heavily with the Front-End Architect to identify consumable components to build.
  • You’ll conduct regular 1:1s with product, design, and engineering directors to identify successes, challenges, perspectives, and preferences.
  • You’ll establish and maintain rollout strategies.
  • You’ll coordinate with product management release planning activities to identify library needs.
  • You’ll manage the backlog and roadmap of features.
  • You’ll review library docs for editorial quality, consistency, and usefulness.
  • You’ll present on the system’s mission and report the system progress regularly.
  • You’ll set metrics for success in partnership with the Director of Design.
  • You’ll be reporting to the Director of Design.

About you

  • You have extensive experience designing quality digital products and systems that have shipped (not just websites).
  • You deeply appreciate and are conversant around technical constraints in product development.
  • You are able to decisively resolve priorities, timing, risks, task importance, and possible breaking changes.
  • You’re able to clarify scope to balance minimum useful functionality with properly scalable system design.
  • You’re extremely organized, meticulous, and can deftly manage multiple inputs and opposing opinions.
  • You lead by example and have experience leading others toward ambitious goals.
  • You’re team-oriented and strive to serve others through your work.
  • You’re an excellent communicator.
  • Bonus: You have experience building designs in HTML, CSS, and JavaScript

Candidates should have an online portfolio featuring examples of products that have shipped to be considered.

Benefits

  • 100% paid health insurance
  • Paid parental leave program
  • 401k plan
  • Work-life balance is a core value. We have yoga at lunch, can work from home on Wednesdays (which also happens to be “no meeting Wednesdays” for heads-down work), and you can bring your dog to work (as long as Fido doesn’t chew on the wires)
  • In-office bicycle storage plus a free Eco-Pass and neighborhood parking pass
  • Unlimited PTO
  • Catered lunch every Friday, plus a fully stocked kitchen (with LaCroix, if you’re into that. It’s a polarizing beverage at Kapost)
  • Regular happy hours (we’ve cooked together at Food Lab, went bowling, and solved more problems together at escape rooms)
  • Annual company retreat & holiday party
  • We give you money for a new laptop every 3 years - the design team uses Macbook Pros, but we’re happy to get you whatever equipment you need
