Psst. Hey you. Yeah you! Are you a UX/UI designer who loves collaborating with super smart, driven and fun people at a startup that’s growing like crazy and making a positive impact on the world? Would you describe yourself as curious and resourceful?  Are you passionate about improving the experience of your users AND your team? Can you appreciate a good pun? No? Oh. Okay. You can stop reading now.

Okay, so now that the nos are gone… HI! Darn right you’re interested. Let’s talk details.

A little bit about us

We’ve got something really exciting going on here at Verblio. We are transforming the world of work and the world of marketing at the same time. And despite 2020 being the mess that it is, our full-tilt growth spurt and grandiose plans for world domination show no signs of slowing down.

What do we actually DO though? Well, we’re a unique content writing startup based in Denver, CO. Content is a core foundation of modern marketing—but it’s really hard to create quality content, particularly at scale. Many companies can’t reasonably staff for the time, resources and talent they need to harness the power of content. So, we nurture a network of over 3,000 professional writers—plus a marketplace business model and an easy-to-use platform for collaboration—to allow modern digital agencies, businesses, enterprises, and publishers to create truly effective content solutions. We’re led by a 15-year marketplace industry veteran and staffed by a team of energetic, eclectic startup junkies, writing enthusiasts, and random liberal arts degree collectors as we brew this powerful SaaS + marketplace potion.

And we have a LOT to do. To harness the incredible opportunities before us, we need to speed the development of our platform while differentiating it with an awesome user experience and a beautiful visual design. And we need a full-time designer to make that happen. That’s where you come in.

A little bit about you

We’re looking for a designer who...

  • ...can’t decide whether they like UX, UI or visual design more, but knows the difference between a “good” design and a “great” design (and can explain what it is
  • ...eats complexity for breakfast and beauty for dinner
  • ...can turn constraints like technical viability, promised release dates, and the feedback of real users  into LOTS of potential solutions (from a minimum lovable product to the blue sky ideal AND a map of the road between the two)
  • ...is always learning and isn’t afraid to give or receive feedback. Someone who compulsively seizes opportunities to experiment with and improve everything they touch
  • ...sees typos, misaligned elements, missing frames in a complex user flow and froths with the need to fix the
  • ...doesn’t stop at Lorem Ipsum, but drafts UX copy to help ensure hierarchy and the user flow really make sense. Bonus points for drafting real copy that we can actually use in app w/ little revision
  • ...can communicate their work such that it’s easily understood by both new and informed stakeholders, whether on the business or tech side of the house
  • ...has a healthy dose of whimsy, adventurousness and ra-ra team spirit

What you’ll actually do

  • Design UX/UI for our 2-sided marketplace. This means you’ll be designing for our customer experience, our writer experience, and our admin portal (which allows us to calibrate those experiences and deliver professional services behind the scenes)
  • Execute projects from start to finish: (i) plan and coordinate tasks, (ii) seek out requirements and feedback from stakeholders, (iii) research, analyze, strategize, make recommendations (iv) create sketches, wireframes, high fidelity digital designs and revisions at every stage  (v) perform user testing (vi) work directly with engineers, and (vii) maintain a library of ui design assets
  • Develop deep empathy for all of our users; seek out and incorporate their feedback and data as the foundation of your design solutions
  • Partner with members of our cross-functional team to understand our business goals and technical constraints, then make design recommendations accordingly
  • Do all of this in a bootstrapped startup environment with limited resources. Because we like challenge and also freedom
  • Oh, and you’ll be reporting to (and partnering with) Verblio’s Director of Design & Product

What you’ll need to be successful

  • 1+ years of professional experience turning complex problems into engaging design solutions and while creating and maintaining a consistent visual system. You can share several shining examples of real work you've shipped, and what you learned along the way
  • Curiosity, resourcefulness, initiative, and the ability to learn on the fly (and incorporate those learnings into your work). If you’ve got this, you can learn the rest ;)
  • Excitement for agile and iterative, human-centered design practices
  • Ability to speak “engineer”, with a working knowledge of HTML, CSS, database + analytics basics, accessibility and mobile-first or responsive design approaches
  • Fluency in standard prototyping tools of varying fidelity (for example: paper prototyping, Google Slides, Figma, Sketch, Webflow, Illustrator)  and collaborative tools (for example: Invision, Miro, LucidChart)
  • Comfort with remote work and collaborating with remote teams. The Verblio team spans multiple cities and continents. You should be self-motivated and capable of driving resolution on design issues across multiple projects

  • Competitive salary and stock options
  • Health, dental & vision insurance with a  generous monthly company contribution
  • Flexible paid time off and holidays

  • Some day when we can safely co-locate again, we’ve got in-person perks like free food & drink, fun events,  a hip centrally-located Denver office, a free RTD Eco-pass, etc… Some day
