Pushpay exists to bring people together by strengthening community, connection, and belonging. As the leading provider of mobile apps and giving technology to churches, schools, and nonprofits, Pushpay helps organizations and their communities stay connected anytime, anywhere.

This role is to lead the UXD and UXR functions for Pushpay, creating exceptional user experiences that help faith-based organizations better engage with their communities through modern, relevant digital tools.

Job Summary:

This role provides leadership and direction for Pushpay’s user experience team - a global team of design and research professionals. This individual, and her team, will work alongside a talented team of product managers and engineers in an agile environment to build digital tools that encourage community, connection and belonging in faith communities.

This individual will lead a globally distributed team of UX Design and UX Research professionals. Many of those individuals are located in our three primary office locations of Colorado Springs, Colorado; Redmond, Washington; and Auckland, New Zealand. This is a manager of managers role that is responsible for guiding front line leaders to higher organizational performance, and leads a total organization of 10-20 UXD and UXR professionals across multiple product and engineering teams.

Pushpay prides itself on leading the marketplace with exceptional user experiences that remove friction from individuals that want to engage in their faith communities - whether by volunteering, joining a group, attending digitally, or being generous with their financial resources. As our company and product portfolio grows, maintaining great user experiences across our product suite is becoming more and more challenging. This individual must be able to thrive in a complex product suite, consistently put the users first, and advocate & evangelize user-centered design to the entire organization. Due to the geographical footprint of the team and colleagues, this individual must be able to thrive managing remotely - wherever they are located.

This role reports to the Chief Technology Officer. Their direct peers in the organization are the Head of Engineering and Heads of Product.

What You’ll Do:

  • Lead an organization that creates useful, usable, and desirable user experiences that appeal to faith organizations
  • Define and institutionalize the process and tools that make the UX organization successful: from user-centered design practices to component libraries to wireframing tools and beyond
  • Lead the UX research function, which sometimes directly facilitates research and other times equips product teams to perform their own research, both evaluative and generative
  • Work collaboratively with product and engineering in agile environments to identify the best possible outcomes for our customers and business
  • Be an active member of the CTO staff that defines and implements product and engineering strategy for the company
  • Contribute to the total brand experience by working closely with product marketing and brand functions

What You’ll Need:

  • At least 5 years in UX role (designer, researcher)
  • Leadership experience in design or research inside of a Digital/SaaS based institution
  • At least 2 years experience managing others in a UXD or UXR related field
  • Experience working in an agile model with empowered product teams, typically a product manager, engineering leader, and designer
  • Ability to work out of one of our engineering centers in Auckland, NZ; Colorado Springs, CO; or Redmond, WA. Other locations possible for very well-qualified candidates

What Will Make You Successful:

  • Creative Leadership - You have a clear understanding of User-Centered Design, have a compelling portfolio or product history that demonstrates your past success, and have success leading individuals or teams to better user outcomes.
  • Managerial and Operational Leadership - You have relevant managerial experience to lead a complex team, have demonstrated the ability to “operationalize” design with processes and tools, have the ability to work effectively with product and engineering peers, and develop and grow UX staff.
  • Remote Leadership - You have experience leading individuals remotely and have the ability to maintain influential and supportive relationships with remote peers and direct reports across multiple time zones. You have the willingness and capability to travel as needed.
  • UX Evangelism Leadership - You see a clear return on investment (ROI) for great user experiences, and have the ability to communicate that clearly to others. You can do so effectively up and down the org, from individual contributors to executives. You instill a sense of urgency in the organization for great user experiences.
  • You Believe Our Work Has Purpose - You understand our market and believe it to be a worthy place to invest time and energy. You are motivated to invest in UXD and UXR professionals, creating and maintaining a place where great people want to work.
