About Knotty Tie Co.

Knotty Tie Co. is a social enterprise built to provide meaningful employment opportunities for resettled refugees in our community. By creating opportunities for arriving refugees to work in their trade, and in a supportive work environment with flexible schedules, fair wages and generous benefits, we're removing barriers for them and their families to become economically self-sufficient and culturally assimilated. Nearly half of our staff are resettled refugees from Iraq, Iran, Syria, Ethiopia, Eritrea, Somalia and Rwanda. Needless to say, their presence in our organization is inspiring and creates a fun multicultural atmosphere on a daily basis.

Our business model drives the growth of our social mission. We design, print and manufacture custom goods using fabrics made from recycled plastic bottles. We constantly seek to reduce our waste and improve our environmental impact. From printed fabric to the final stitch, everything is made by us at our facilities in the Santa Fe Arts District in Denver. We currently create ties, bow ties and scarves, largely for organizations and weddings.

After 6 years of promising growth, we are now an emerging ethical fashion and consumer products brand. We are expanding our apparel products and home goods offering over the coming year, refining our brand and aggressively expanding our sales and marketing efforts. To support our continued growth, we are in need of a skilled creative who has the ability and professionalism to manage clients in any of our product categories.

Corporate Design Position & Team:

Our Design Team as a whole is a very tight-knit team made up of expert graphic designers and artists with diverse skills and backgrounds that work in an open office environment. They are excellent communicators with clients, fellow designers, and other staff and departments within the company. Positivity is also a key component of our team and is key to maintaining the professional and fun environment in which we all thrive.

This role is intended to work cross-functionally with the Corporate Design Team who are focused on our largest customers, but also serve a variety of other types of clients such as weddings. You’ll be responsible for creating designs and engaging with clients from start to finish in each of these segments. In 2018 many of these areas of our business grew considerably and we’re looking to continue building on this success.

The Design Team typically works 20% collaboratively and 80% independently, and is primarily responsible for:

1) Design & Service

Create designs to meet the specific needs of our clients and work directly with them from the initial design inquiry through the entire design and purchasing process via email, chat and phone. You’ll have to guide clients through our processes and capabilities, work effectively and efficiently designing for dozens of clients at the same time, all while switching between multiple internal systems we use to manage the whole experience. It’s not easy without mastery, but it is exciting and challenging each day.

You’ll also be tasked with assisting in our efforts to turn design leads into customers, and our existing clients into larger opportunities. You’ll develop relationships, answer questions in a timely and sales-focused manner, and be diligent in following up with leads.

2) Internal Content Design

Conduct research, create design concepts and work collaboratively to develop new and improved content. Apply design thinking to solving issues across the organization and assist in the launching of new products, branding and special initiatives. Help us reach new clients, test new concepts and develop new skills by working as a team to solve our most challenging growth issues.

3) Product Pattern Design

Create pattern designs for existing and developing products based upon changing styles and fashion trends. From dinosaur patterns to state pride to modern takes on traditional patterns, we design it all and take inspiration from the world around us, break boundaries, get experimental and set our designs aside from the rest of the industry.

Our Ideal Candidate:

You are a self-starter with a professional, customer-centric, sales-driven mentality. It’s essential that you can balance many clients and projects at once and solve problems independently while maintaining a high attention to detail. You must be an excellent communicator with clients, fellow designers, and other departments within the company. Additionally, you must have a mastery of Adobe Illustrator as it is our primary design tool.

We’re interested in hiring someone who brings unique skills to our team. Tell us what you have to offer! Some other areas we know we need to improve as a team are advanced Adobe Photoshop, branding, and editorial experience.
