About Parsyl:

Parsyl is an insurance technology company that delivers data driven cargo insurance solutions for essential supply chains including vaccines and medicines, perishable foods and other sensitive goods. Our mission is to end the days of “ship and pray” and  build a world where everyone, everywhere can trust the quality of the goods they rely on, from the foods they eat to the medicines they need.

We are working to achieve this by combining smart sensors, data insights, and data-driven insurance to improve risk resiliency and safeguard goods in transit and storage. This unique combination of IoT and insurance means our customers can use data to make supply chains more transparent, safe and sustainable - better for people and the planet.

In response to the Covid-19 pandemic, Parsyl led the formation of the Global Health Risk Facility, the world’s dedicated insurance solution for distributing Covid-19 vaccines and other essential health products around the globe.

Where you fit in:

Data is at the core of everything we do at Parsyl. As such, you will play a critical role in helping us achieve our mission. As the first dedicated data engineer at Parsyl, you will build and own the data engineering function. Sitting within the Data & Insights team, you will ensure the team has the data it needs to build products that ultimately improve the quality of essential goods throughout the global supply chain.

You are a good fit for this position if you are confident in building and owning the data engineering function within a data first organization. You are equally comfortable building data pipelines and communicating technical tradeoffs to non technical audiences. You are self-motivated and thrive in a fast paced, ambiguous environment.

What you’ll get to work on:

  • Architect, build, and maintain Parsyl’s data warehouse from scratch to accelerate Data Science and Business Analyst research and development.
  • Own data pipelines and integrations - from sources such as Parsyl transactional and IoT data, software vendor data, and partner or purchased data - for consumption by the data team.
  • Coordinate with the production backend team to efficiently manage data pipelines and integrations for two systems with different requirements; understand and advocate for the needs of the data team and liaise between the data team and backend and product teams.
  • Maintain an expert understanding of emerging data engineering tools, architectures, and processes, articulate the tradeoffs between them, and anticipate the data team’s need to adopt them; drive the creation of and own Parsyl’s data engineering roadmap.
  • Create and maintain a data dictionary; own data meaning and integrity within the data warehouse.
  • Build and lead a data engineering team to meet the data team’s growing needs; establish and ensure best practices and standards for performance, speed, scalability, and quality.

Qualifications:

  • 5+ years of experience in data engineering and data technologies
  • 3+ years of experience architecting cloud data solutions, preferably AWS or GCP
  • 1+ years of experience in engineering management or technical leadership role
  • Experience with
