What you’ll do:

The Safety Analytics Specialist at Pinnacol is an informal leader who provides innovative risk intelligence to customers so they can do their best work everyday. Capable of delivering an array of human and organizational performance oriented solutions and advanced data analysis, from loss control and lagging metric review to enterprise risk strategy and leading indicator development. Self-directed subject matter expert in safety, insurance and data analytics that leverages autonomy and creativity by proactively investigating Pinnacol Intellectual Property for safety and health insights, developing comprehensive knowledge of the disciplines, and seeking out problems that can become opportunities to build innovative products and services for Pinnacol customers and agency partners.

What you can expect:

  • Responsible for gathering, analyzing, and interpreting a wide variety of data to identify causal relationships and trigger points that influence customer safety behavior and organizational performance.
  • Performs data mining using a mix of internal and external data domains and quantifies the significance of variances on continuously evolving risk models to best inform on emerging loss trends and enable proactive intervention.
  • Applies an array of statistical methods and techniques ranging from traditional to newly developing that can target consulting efforts, identify strategic innovation avenues, marketing opportunities or provide impactful communication content.
  • Works around basic machine learning / AI techniques to help support the building of models that support sound risk management decision making for both Pinnacol and the customer.  
  • Supports Pinnacol data scientists in builds predictive models for health and safety, testing the models, and optimizing the model. Manages the modeling efforts on the safety side from start to finish, collaborates with other internal data scientists and product owners to coordinate final production.
  • Develops reports, charts, tables, models and other advanced data visualization or simulation in support of findings using a variety of software.
  • Advises internal Pinnacol business partners with regards to health and safety patterns and relationships in Pinnacol data to recommend business direction or outcomes, specifically policyholder loss control and helping change the buying habits of customers. 
  • Uses advanced data analytics to perform safety, risk management and HOP oriented consulting, to support direct customer engagement and organic requests from customers and agent partners.
  • Constructs the data strategy for pilot projects with customers for testing innovative safety products and services.
  • Develops and maintains safety innovation portfolio KPI’s and leads timely business intelligence and information insights to Safety Services’s leadership.
  • Build a network of internal and external stakeholders to stay abreast of industry or business trends.
  • Adopt a growth mindset through proactively identifying and addressing learning and developmental needs to enhance your own performance.
  • Perform other duties as assigned such as safety consulting, safety on-call, and so forth when necessary.

What you need to be successful:

  • Bachelor’s Degree is required.
  • BCSP-Certified Safety Professional designation must be obtained within the first 6-months of hire.
  • Six years of  health, safety or risk management experience is strongly preferred. 
  • Demonstrated leadership experience is strongly preferred. 
  • Experience creating visual dashboards, data centric business proposals and reports using a variety of software strongly preferred
  • Experience leading agile data projects and performing statistical analysis using traditional and newly-developed techniques preferred
  • Experience using a combination of descriptive, prescriptive, and predictive analytics for enterprise safety strategic development preferred
  • Strong customer-facing skills, sales first mindset, and robust public speaking skills. 
  • Supportive and comfortable with the future of work, including digital collaboration tools, virtual experiences, and innovative technologies. 
  • Effective Communication: Ask earnest questions and challenge the ideas of others in a persuasive but professional manner. 
  • Knowledge and ability to apply Human-Centered Design, through being curious, seeking out problems, and prototyping iterative solutions to those problems with the customer always in mind.
  • Strategic-Thinking: Understands and processes complex information and exercises sound judgment, considering the situation, the issues, the key players, and levels of authority involved. Proposes a course of action that further the objectives, priorities and vision of organization.
  • Risk-Taking: Willingness to take calculated risks, accept failure, get over failure, and move on to the next calculated risk. 
  • Resilience: Remains energized and focused in the face of ambiguity, rapid change or strenuous demands. 
  • Teamwork and Leadership: Demonstrated proficiency working well inside small, high-performing teams with little supervision while under pressure. Willing to lead or be led depending on what the situation requires. Takes Extreme Ownership over all situations.

When meeting the requirements, the minimum of what you can expect for this position is $77,700. The actual offer will vary depending on the candidate's skills and competencies.
