Position Overview:

There are hard problems and then there are impossible problems. At Arturo we work on the latter, and we are looking for your help. If you enjoy researching and implementing state of the art solutions and if you are passionate about leveraging an ever growing assortment of datasets, models, and techniques to push the limits of what is possible, then read on.

What you’ll do:

• Grapple with problems deemed unsolvable with all known out of the box solutions
• Transform ambiguous business problems into soluble applied research problems
• Vet new and disparate data sources to ascertain potential business value
• Extend and/or combine state of the art machine learning models or methodologies
• Fuse new and/or old data sources to unlock new capabilities
• Adhere to test-driven development (TDD) best practices
• Challenge and be challenged by brilliant colleagues
• Demo proof of concepts, write company blog posts, and share your favorite new tools, techniques, and libraries with the team

What you bring:

• Nearly zealous adherence to documenting experiments, findings, and code
• Familiarity with traditional computer vision concepts
• Thorough understanding of deep learning concepts and APIs
• Professional and demonstrable experience with Python, TensorFlow and/or PyTorch, OpenCV and/or scikit-image, NumPy, pytest or other Python testing library, and Docker
• Penchant for sussing out edge cases and qualifying how difficult each one is to solve
• Ample grit needed to navigate the many failures that precede a successful solution
• No qualms about pivoting to a more promising problem when a project stalls or fails
• Demonstrable verbal and written communication skills conveying a complex, technical idea to both technical and non-technical audiences
• Proven track record of weighing the pros and cons of complex decisions and providing sound recommendations
• Masters, PhD, or commensurate experience in a STEM field 

Nice-to-haves:

• Familiarity with Kubernetes
• Familiarity with asyncio
• Ability to write production level code
• Photogrammetry experience
• Insurance and/or geospatial domain expertise

Successful Machine Learning Scientist will:

• Deliver a fully documented, unit tested, working prototype that meets or exceeds a previously agreed upon metric
• Develop a new proprietary capability that the internal machine learning team can leverage to enhance current product offerings
• Ideate, build, and integrate a new model or product into the Arturo production system
• Efficiently discover and then thoroughly document why an approach to a solution is infeasible
