Hotel Engine is a Denver-based travel tech company on a mission to radically simplify trip management for businesses. We’re not a cumbersome travel management company, nor an online price aggregator. We’re a powerful network that brings hotels and businesses together. Our members save time, money and effort in managing their lodging programs, and our partners get access to loyal, high-value business travelers. It’s a true win-win. Following a 2021 series B funding round at a $1.3 billion valuation, we achieved remarkable growth in 2022. We expect 2023 to be our best year yet.

Across our organization, we’re powered by exceptional talent. From our large Engineering and Product teams to Sales, Supplier Relations, Member Support, Data, Marketing and Operations, our team is forward-thinking, data-driven and customer-obsessed. We’re also a lot of fun — one of the many reasons we were named a Best Place to Work by Built In Colorado for the past four consecutive years.

We value our individuality, and we also understand that together, we thrive. Most importantly, we know we’re not for everyone! Complacency doesn’t live here. We’re focused on finding the right people who are energized by our culture and bring diverse experiences and backgrounds that will help us unlock our full potential. We are looking for a Lead Product Data Scientist to join our Data Science & Engineering team and lead the data analytics efforts for our core booking experience vertical. You will partner with our Product and Software Development teams to develop the analytics frameworks, KPIs, experimentations, and deep dive analyses for our core platform, directly influencing our product strategy, prioritization, and delivery. You will be responsible for leading projects that not only help us measure the success and impact of existing and new product features, but also help us understand user behavior and opportunities for product improvements. The individual in this role must be highly motivated, a self-starter with a strong track record of achievements, an obsession for rigorous work and bias for action, and extraordinary communication abilities to lead cross-functional initiatives with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.

If you are passionate about travel, about working on both strategic project and hands-on implementation, and relate to our vision and DNA, please apply.

Here’s what you’ll do:

  • Partner with product and engineering stakeholders to build data analytics to drive the product strategy, define the roadmap and features of HE’s core booking platform
  • Design and evaluate experiments to understand the impact of product changes, and translate statistical analyses into clear, concise learnings
  • Build and monitor success through KPIs, customer behavior data in order to inform product iteration and drive successful performance.
  • Act as the expert for all product metrics and own tracking of trends, estimation of impact of new features, and all insights related to our users’ journey on the core booking platform (including conversion, segmentation and retention analyses)
  • Work cross-functionally to instrument user events for all our products ensuring appropriate taxonomy and data governance through Amplitude
  • Answer ambiguous, unstructured business questions with comprehensive data analyses
  • Foster a culture of data-driven insights across the organization

Here’s what we’re looking for:

  • Bachelor’s degree in statistics, economics/econometrics or related quantitative field
  • 5+ years working as a product data scientist/analyst or in a similar role
  • Experience with web analytics and optimization of conversion / click-through
  • Experience developing KPIs and OKRs as well as metric goals
  • Experience analyzing experiments (A/B tests)
  • Demonstrated ability to analyze large data sets, identify trends, conduct root cause analysis, and present findings
  • Extensive experience building complex SQL queries, using Python for data/statistical analysis, and building powerful visualizations and reporting
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to summarize complex analyses for a non-technical audience
  • Logically and strategically minded, recognizing that the most impactful but difficult to implement option may not be the most appropriate
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to distill complex issues and insights to non-technical audiences
  • Experience in eCommerce or travel industry a plus

Cash Compensation:

  • In addition to a compelling equity package, a reasonable expectation for total cash compensation for this role is between $170,000 - $200,000/year (made up of base plus bonus). Final offer amounts are determined by multiple factors, including prior experience, expertise, and may vary from the amount above.

Remote opportunities:

  • This role is eligible for remote work, and you can work from anywhere in the U.S.
