Data Scientist at Pax8
Position Summary:
The Data Scientist works on existing components of our data and analytics pipeline, as well as exploring new tools or frameworks that drive analytical value for Pax8. They develop and maintain new data extraction pipelines between internal and external data sources into Pax8 data stores, owning high priority reporting requests when needed, and designing machine learning products to support Pax8's initiatives and products.
Essential Responsibilities (includes, but is not limited to):
- Work with stakeholders to determine the desired feature set and develop stable and scalable solutions
- Participate in project planning and architecture discussions
- Assist reporting and analytics users when data warehouse features are needed, or complex reporting challenges arise
- Work on comprehensive data science solutions, which may include data extraction, preprocessing, predictive modeling, and interoperability with other Pax8 products
- Design and develop machine learning models to support Pax8's business needs. This involves researching the feasibility of projects, gathering and extraction of features, and robust validation and testing when selecting models
- Create descriptive reports and visualizations detailing the performance of machine learning projects
- Make updates and improvements to data science infrastructure and deployment processes
Ideal Skills, Experience, and Competencies:
- At least two (2) years of related Data Science experience
- Expertise in SQL, Python (pandas, scikit-learn, keras, flask, etc.)
- Experience with data extraction and processing frameworks like Spark, Kafka, Airflow, etc.
- Experience with Docker or other containerization technologies preferred
- Solid understanding of statistical methods
- Experience with machine learning models and libraries, as well as knowledge about what models to use for a given problem, and how to improve model performance
- Ability to effectively communicate project results to stakeholders
- Ability to take on new opportunities and touch challenges with a sense of urgency, high energy, and enthusiasm
- Ability to build partnerships and work collaboratively with others to meet shared objectives
- Ability to make sense of complex, high quantity, and sometimes contradictory information to effectively solve problems
- Ability to actively learn through experimentation when tackling new problems, using both successes and failures as learning fodder
- Ability to anticipate and adopt innovations in business-building digital technology applications
Required Education & Certifications:
- A./B.S. in related field or equivalent work experience required
- Technical Master’s degree in related field or equivalent work experience required
- Ph.D. in related field or equivalent work experience preferred
Compensation:
- Qualified candidates can expect a salary beginning at $100,000 or more depending on experience
