Respondent is a two-sided marketplace that connects market and usability researchers with the highest quality research participants in the world. Our platform gives researchers a single place to quickly find the right participants for their projects, as well as schedule and pay them instantly. It simplifies the work that’s necessary to conducting quality research. Companies like IBM, Airbnb, Uber, Microsoft, Procter & Gamble and many more trust and integrate us into their research processes.

We are a small, quickly growing, fully remote tech startup. Working as a distributed team allows us to hire the best talent regardless of location (right now, everyone works in a US Time Zone). All of our employees have areas of expertise as well as a wide breadth of knowledge in their domains. This blog post shares more insight into how we work successfully as a distributed team.

As a Data Scientist on our growing Data Science team, you will work on a range of business problems using techniques from diverse domains such as data mining and machine learning, statistical modeling, simulation, optimization, NLP and multimedia analysis. You will be the primary decision maker on the Data team and will research and develop algorithms for applied use cases, as well as develop prototypes to be handed over to engineering for production.

Who you are:

Strong applied machine learning experience in commercial settings

Educated to postgraduate level in Mathematics, Computer Science, or a relevant field

Excel at researching algorithms and pragmatically deciding between implementing custom frameworks versus using off-the-shelf solutions, depending on business needs

Strong ability to explain machine learning to a technical and non-technical audience

Excel in multi-disciplinary environments and excited to see ideas realized in practice

Avid problem solver with ideals for breaking existing boundaries

Experience working with data mining algorithms, including decision trees and random forests, gradient boosting, clustering, probability networks, association rules, and neural networks

Fluent in multiple programming languages (Python, R, and SQL)

Experience with cloud computing, data warehousing, and agile development

What you’ll do:

Research, design, and prototype robust and scalable models based on machine learning, data mining, and statistical modeling to answer key business problems

Build tools and support structures needed to analyze data, perform elements of data cleaning, feature selection and engineering, and organizing experiments using best practices

Work with development teams and business groups to ensure models can be replicated and implemented across multiple clients

Present findings to the business and drive improvements and solutions from concept to delivery

Stay up-to-date on the latest developments in the field and champion promising new methods relevant to the problems we’re working on

We are looking for someone who matches our level of joy for the work we do, brings something new to the team, and elevates our game. Our core values are very important to us and we hope they resonate with you, too. You can read more about them here!
