Become part of our team developing the first independent commercial space station. This space station is based on our expandable LIFETM habitat, serviced by Dream Chaser® spaceplane, and will provide the facilities and services for commercial research, manufacturing, and tourism.
As a Data Scientist III at Sierra Space in Space Destinations, your fundamental responsibility will be to derive value out of data. You will use skills like advanced data mining to proactively acquire information from various sources. You will process, cleanse, and validate the data integrity of that data and enhance it where required using third party data sources and other techniques. Finally, you will use statistical modeling, machine learning techniques, and ad-hoc analysis to build high quality predictive and prescriptive solutions for Space Destinations.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Understand business requirements in Power BI context and design data models to transform raw data into meaningful insights.
  • Utilize Power BI to build interactive and visually appealing dashboards and reports with drill down capabilities to support program teams a well as summary roll-ups for visibility to the executive-level.
  • Own, maintain, and improve Space Destinations suite of Power BI reports, study protocol development, design and layout, and data management.
  • Connecting data sources, importing data, and transforming data for Business intelligence.
  • Analyze commercial payload and market data and support business development predicting emerging technology areas.
  • Lead Working Group meetings with personnel across Sierra Space Business Areas to share knowledge, surface issues, and discuss potential solutions.
  • Where appropriate, develop and standardize methods, techniques, and evaluation criteria.
  • Develop strong working relationships with Sierra Space Business Areas
  • Create relationships between data and develop tabular and other multidimensional data models.
  • Chart creation and data documentation explaining algorithms, parameters, models, and relations.
  • Excellent communication skills - must be able to discuss the requirements effectively with all stakeholders.


Must-haves:

  • BS/BA degree in related field or an equivalent technical understanding
  • Relevant work experience may substitute for required education.
  • 6+ years of relevant experience, including demonstrated successes in leading the development and implementation of systems of data visualization reports, including teaching others to both use and develop reports.
  • Expertise in data handling and visualization, including SQL programming and data reporting/visualization software (familiarity with Microsoft Power BI preferred, but Cognos, Tableau, etc. acceptable)
  • Must have SQL knowledge and experience working with relational databases.
  • Strong leadership and relationship development skills
  • Excellent communication, problem solving and decision-making skills.
  • Organizational skills must be keen - Possess the ability to handle multiple tasks.
  • Ability to work cross team and collaborate with others.
  • Solid debugging, testing, and problem-solving skills


Preferred:

  • Advanced data handling expertise in multiple programming languages
  • Advanced analytical techniques expertise (e.g. machine learning)
  • Experience with MS Project Online and JIRA
  • Experience in project cost estimation and Earned Value Management (EVMS).
