Data Analyst
About us
At Flatfile, we believe that humans shouldn’t have to struggle to use the data that drives our work forwards. We create beautiful, human-centric experiences to remove the barriers between people and data. We’re automating every repetitive and painstaking process involved in teaching machines what data is and where it should go.
What do a grocery store, an early-stage e-commerce startup, and Fortune 500 insurance company all have in common? They are all Flatfile customers, for one.
Regardless of segment or geography, accessing usable data quickly is a baseline requirement for operating your business today. Flatfile serves as a crucial bridge between messy, 3rd party data and our customers’ systems. We call this data onboarding, and we view it as both a challenge and an opportunity to serve every company in the world.
Want to join us?
We're not just looking for someone to punch a clock. We crave your diverse perspective and your desire to solve the most unique challenges at the intersection of data and design.
As a Data Analyst, and our second Data hire, you’ll play a critical role in building and scaling the reporting infrastructure that the organization relies upon, while simultaneously helping field complex analytics requests from the business. You’ll be half Data Engineer, half Senior Analyst. To be successful in this role you must have an eye for detail, an innate curiosity to discover the “why” behind whatever you see happening, strong SQL abilities, and a history of working with cross-functional business stakeholders. It’s not required, but we’d love it if you originally came from a non-technical background, and had firsthand experience of working in product, marketing, sales, CX, or some other similar role in an organization; the best data people are those who can empathize with their stakeholders!
You will...
- Collaborate with stakeholders across the business to define and report on standardized metrics that measure the value of business activities
- Define, build, and iterate on production-level data transformations to support stakeholders across data and BI applications
- Build the foundation of data architecture at Flatfile and help us create a roadmap for future growth
- Create documentation and testing to ensure that our data is accurate and easily understandable
- Manage pre-configured data pipelines from Stitch, Segment, and Hightouch, and design custom pipelines as appropriate using Airflow
- Research and implement new tools to enhance our data stack
- Assist in fulfilling ad-hoc data requests from business stakeholders
- Enforce code quality by identifying and reducing tech debt, standardizing styles, and removing deprecated objects from code and downstream locations
What you'll need to be successful...
- SQL: A high level of SQL wizardry, and comfort producing views and tables in BigQuery.
- DBT: An advanced understanding of DBT’s functionality, and experience developing tests, incremental tables, snapshots, and generalized macros.
- BI Tooling: Experience working in BI environments (e.g. Looker, Sisense, Tableau)
- Scoping information: An ability to autonomously work with stakeholders to understand their function-specific needs and convert those into data and reporting specifications
- Python: A familiarity with writing python to query external APIs
- Git: An understanding of pull requests, using version control, and committing code to a production environment.
In the next 6 months you will...
- Own the data infrastructure for two of our most critical organizations, Finance and Marketing, and will be the go-to data person as both of these organizations expand their respective scopes and information needs. Build out the reporting infrastructure that allows the business to understand cashflow projections, customer churn, and ROAS in ever-increasing levels of sophistication.
- Produce proactive insights for the business as you come to understand the nuances of our data and feel empowered to explore your burning curiosity.
- Lead the charge on enforcing DBT best practices and discovering new tools to help us work more efficiently. Expand our use of DBT test functionality, develop an initial system for alerting stakeholders and monitoring data integrity, and advocate for new tooling that improves our workflows and improves data visibility / observability.
