Consumer Insights Analyst

Position Summary:

 

The Consumer Insights Analyst (CIA) is responsible for understanding and advancing the organization’s knowledge of consumer and customer behavior. Through custom analysis of internal data and also a curated external data set, the CIA develops strategies and recommendations to inform innovation, content, communications, retail marketing and other strategic business needs. The Consumer Insights Analyst is primarily responsible for researching and reporting category, brand and consumer trends and behaviors through analysis of primary consumer data or through the use of subscription-based tools (e.g., NPD, Simmons, Helixa, Statista and Mintel, etc.).


The Role: 

 

The Consumer Insights Analyst will use these toolsets and other empirical or purchased date to contribute to presentation decks and case studies, consumer segments/audience persona development by providing data-driven insights and perspectives. As a member of the strategy team, the Consumer Insights Analyst reports to the Chief Strategy Officer (CSO) and works directly with the Strategy & Insights Department to serve the best interests of the organization across all departments.

 

Essential Job Duties and Skills:


  • Direct and in-depth user experience with consumer data software platforms and tools such as MRI/Simmons, Helixa, Mintel, etc. This experience is absolutely critical to this role. The ideal candidate will operate these tools the way a fighter pilot operates a jet fighter. 
  • Assists company divisions and department with strategic thought leadership regarding data driven consumer behavior analysis
  • Analyze customer data to answer business questions and produce data-driven stories that reveal key insights into consumer behavior.
  • Analyzes customer data to create customer profiles, define consumer segments, preference and behavior trending, media, communications and connection analysis.
  • Provide internal business partners with accurate and pertinent customer insights and dashboards that enhance and guide effective decision making.
  • Act as consumer expert for related industries, tracks competitive and marketplace activities, conducts competitive reviews, and identify and communicate implications for internal clients and leadership teams.
  • Adheres to a process-driven approach to strategy, with the natural ability to craft bullet-proof POVs that builds internal trust, respect, and relationships.
  • Working understanding or experience in broad scale research initiatives, design sessions and ad hoc projects across all methodologies (online/offline, quantitative, qualitative, ethnography, panel, focus groups, etc.)
  • Collaborate with external partners, vendors and other research resources to assist in developing the organization's desired knowledge base.
  • Analyzes research and data to develop presentations that highlight findings and insights that spark the creative development process and communications planning.
  • Research and craft key insights and contribute to or in some cases, lead the development and delivery of briefs and strategy presentations.
  • Software ninja – Excel, PPT and other web based user interfaces should be effortless to you.
  • You are able to prepare and present high-quality reports and presentations.
  • Stay current and connected to culture and marketing trends and yet objective – “knowing what you don’t know” and prepared to seek out the true answers and truths regardless of personal or organizational bias.
  • Create and maintain a library of case studies, insights, trends, processes and best practices.
  • Minimal overnight travel may be required

  

 

Other Job Requirements:

 

  • 5 years’ experience working in planning or research capacity at a consumer products or services, communications, research or strategy agency.
  • Analytic experience with media analysis tools such as MRI/Simmons, or consumer databases such as Helixa.
  • Proficiency with statistical software a plus (SPSS, R or Python are preferred)
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Adaptability in fast-paced and pressured environments while remaining proactive, resourceful and efficient.
  • Excellent time and calendar management skills.
  • Ability to follow company policies and procedures.
  • Maintain a high level of professionalism and have the ability to work well in a team environment.
  • Maintain strong working relationships with internal teams.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Marketing/Advertising, Statistics, Analytics, or a Master’s degree are a plus.
