The Opportunity

DAT is seeking a Business Intelligence Engineer to join our Data and Engineering team in either our Denver, Colorado or Beaverton, Oregon offices.

The responsibilities of the Business Intelligence Engineer are broad, ranging from traditional dimensional modeling of data structures in our data warehouse to building sophisticated front end BI environments for our customers. In this role you will be part of a supportive, collaborative, and diverse team responsible for exploring, making recommendations, and implementing BI solutions. We work together, learning from and teaching each other to build each other up while we build great things.

What You’ll Do

  • Work with subject matter experts and analysts to determine BI needs for our customers
  • Work with product teams to factor BI needs into analytics embedded in our products
  • Build robust data models in our Snowflake data warehouse and BI tools
  • Work as a team to administer our BI tool footprint
  • Work as both analyst and engineer, depending on the situation, to elicit BI requirements and to design and build BI solutions that drive results for our business
  • Act as a teacher and collaborator to grow data, data analysis, and data visualization literacy throughout DAT
  • Review and recommend new BI tools as the industry changes along with teammates. Working either independently on projects or in collaborative teams depending upon the needs of the effort

The Skills and Experience You’ll Bring

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Mathematics, Information Systems or other quantitative field or equivalent experience
  • 1-5 years experience in a BI role
  • Experience with BI Tools such as Tableau, Business Objects, MicroStrategy, ThoughtSpot, Cognos, or similar
  • Some experience with and a strong interest in data visualization
  • Strong SQL Proficiency, including analytic queries and other complex use cases
  • Experience with SQL Query Tuning, data investigation, and optimization
  • Experience modeling star schemas and other summary objects based on business requirements
  • Ability to distill complex business needs into tangible business intelligence requirements and solutions

Bonus Skills

  • ELT/ETL background with data transformation and operational experience
  • Experience building data warehouse solutions in Snowflake
  • Scripting experience with Powershell and Python


(Colorado only) In accordance with the Colorado Equal Pay for Equal Work Act, the minimum salary for this role is $80,000.00 + benefits. The maximum compensation for this role can vary significantly depending on your job-related skills and experience.
