The Opportunity

Creative data enthusiasts rejoice!! This role is for the ultimate data Swiss Army knife who wants to be a key cog in building a transformative software platform.

The nio platform is data agnostic. We don’t require any type of database to operate and believe that context should be able to be applied in-stream in real-time. That being said, we fully understand the value of data storage and know that different use cases call for different data designs. The opportunity centralizes on ownership of our entire data stack – Be the architect, implement your decision, and be accountable for the databases. The ideal candidate will feel comfortable getting their hands dirty and owning our entire suite of database implementations — everything from initial architecture and data modeling to analysis and data science.

Skills Needed

  • Hands-on experience standing up, configuring and managing database technologies
  • A strong understanding of different database solutions and the costs and benefits of using each of them
  • An understanding of standard database practices related to normalization, referential integrity, indexing, query optimization, etc
  • Experience managing and interacting with Linux systems both on premises and with standard cloud hosting providers (Amazon AWS, Rackspace, etc)
  • Experience with data science and extracting and applying insights from large-volume datasets
  • A general understanding of the different layers of the software stack and how they interact with one another
  • The ability to communicate effectively about technical concepts — this includes describing and discussing technical issues with a non-technical audience

Our Stack

Here are some more details about our current database stack and related applications that will in some way be part of your day-to-day at niolabs. We would love to hear more about your experience with any of these items or related tools.

  • ElasticSearch/Kibana for storing and visualizing streaming data
  • MongoDB for storing various unstructured data
  • Socket.io for streaming data in real-time to browser-based clients
  • Node.js for building RESTful APIs to interact with our databases
  • Amazon Web Services (AWS) for cloud compute, hosting, and content delivery
  • Linux (Ubuntu) as our standard deployment OS. The nio platform is OS-independent but we use Linux heavily and expect our engineering team to be familiar with it.
  • Python3 for developing our core platform as well as open-source components we call blocks

What is nio?

Behind several years of research and development by the niolabs team, the nio platform was created to seamlessly enable innovation across the world’s biggest issues. As “things” become smarter, the opportunity for technology to provide transformational value becomes both real and increasingly complex. With no agenda or bias other than to provide a tool to deliver hyperconnectivity and intelligence on the user’s terms, nio simplifies the process of digital transformation.

Submit your resume and a short note explaining why you’d be a great fit. We’ll eagerly review all applicants and reach out accordingly.
