Overview:The Team Lead for the Alteryx Technical Writing/Product Content team is a player/coach role. On the coaching side, they are responsible for managing the Tech Writers and Product Content Manager, monitoring their performance, nurturing their career growth and building a collaborative environment. They are also the face of the Tech Writing /Product Content team to the rest of company, representing the team outwardly and acting as the primary conduit for work requests funneling into the team. And they work with the rest of the Tech Writing team to develop the team’s roadmap of long-term strategies to improve the effectiveness of the team’s processes and the quality of their work product. On the player side of the role, they contribute to the team’s body of work, taking on an appropriate portion of the team’s workload.

Position Details:

• Hires and manages the team of technical writers and product content managers
• Consults with internal clients (i.e. Product Managers, Customer Support, etc.) to understand their tech writing and product content needs, proactively guiding them to define the work for a smooth translation into the team’s backlog 
• Actively manages the team’s workload/backlog by participating in department-wide quarterly planning to establish short term commitments, monitoring the team’s throughput throughout the quarter to ensure on-time delivery of those commitments, making adjustments as necessary to accommodate shifting priorities, and load balancing across the team 
• Develops relationships with external customers through participation in Alteryx Community, User Groups and a close relationship with Customer Support to understand our customers’ needs for assistance and education
• Fosters a culture of constant peer review and feedback to ensure that all writing and product content is concise, easy-to-understand and consistent with Alteryx style guielines.
• Participates in the team’s working sessions about documentation and user assistance best practices 
• Leads the team to establish styles and standards, and holds the team accountable to upholding those standards
• Works with UX team to establish clear, collaborative creative process with the Teach writing team contributing UI copy to support the highest quality user experience in products
• Develops long-term strategies to improve the effectiveness of the team
• Coordinates and communicates with departments throughout the organization to ensure alignment with the team’s mission, processes and work product.

Qualifications:

• BS in Engineering, Computer Science, Journalism, or similar
• 5-8 years of relevant work experience in the areas of technical marketing, product documentation, and technical writing, preferably in a cloud based enterprise software company
• 2-4 years of experience managing technical writers or individuals in a similar role
• Proven expertise with documentation software, source control tools, and basic HTML scripting
• Ability to understand the core elements of the Alteryx product suite well enough to represent the user
• Proven ability to prioritize a team’s work effectively and ensure that quality bars are met appropriately
• Demonstrates strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to communicate complex technical information clearly and concisely
• Excellent teamwork skills, ability to manage and influence cross functional teams
