People First

Nylas is a BIG advocate for the well-being of its employees, which is why we have embraced a People First philosophy. It’s about giving more autonomy and flexibility to our employees. It’s not about when, where or how the work is accomplished; it’s about adopting a mindset of velocity and trust when tackling the work. It’s about respecting individual working styles, disabilities, and personal schedules, but also ensuring everyone has a better work-life balance. The outcomes will always be more important than the physical location.

Nylanauts have the ability to decide the best workspace or environment that will result in more ideas, engagement, creativity, focus, collaboration, and productivity. Why? Because we want our employees to be great; because we are focussed on being a high-performing team. To achieve this mission, we remove barriers and offer more autonomy. So, Nylanauts are encouraged to find those environments that inspire them to be great. This means Nylanauts can work from the slopes of Montana or from the beaches of Italy.

And if Nylanauts want to work from an office in one of our hubs (San Francisco, Denver, New York City, Toronto, and London), they can! The workspace is there to be utilized.

So, if you’re looking to join a fast-growing company with a beloved, daily-use product, and an authentic mission that puts people first, we want to meet you. Want to know more? Check us out on Comparably and Great Place to Work!

The Role:

Nylas is looking for a Developer Content Manager!

Our Developer Content Manager will own the developer content pipeline, ensuring the team is publishing the right content in the right places to achieve goals like: building developer awareness for Nylas, driving feature adoption, improving the developer experience for customers building on our APIs through helpful content, and highlighting Nylas as a thought leader in the industry from a technical perspective.

A successful Developer Content Manager will be skilled at managing content pipelines and keeping those pipelines full of impactful content that meets or exceeds our business objectives. You know how to measure performance, report results, and course-correct based on metrics.

You have some level of coding experience (for example, you may be a coding bootcamp graduate with a professional background in marketing). You understand the industry and trends, and can speak developer. While everyone knows “developers don’t like marketing”, you enable developer education to come across as just that—education, genuinely helpful tips and advice, and best practices. You will generate content that developers trust, love, and want to share..

You have an eagle eye for content quality. You know that things like grammar, spelling, structure, story, tone, and asset quality really matter because, if we’re successful, the lion’s share of how developers interact with us will be through our content.

This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced Developer Content Manager to join a newly forming Developer Relations team and have a massive impact on the trajectory of our developer audience, community, and business.

Developers who use Nylas products love them, but we need to do much more to make sure application developers everywhere know Nylas by name and know that we obsess over providing a world-class developer experience.

In the beginning, you will need to create our own developer-facing content channels, while also creating opportunities for Nylas to appear in existing developer community gathering grounds. At the outset, most of this will involve executing zero-to-one initiatives for Nylas, like implementing our developer blog, creating a developer newsletter, establishing community profiles for Nylas, and more.

As you establish our content delivery capabilities, you will work on building a content pipeline that delivers on a predictable cadence. You will source content from Nylas developer advocates, Nylas Product and Engineering teams, community influencers, community developers, customers, and more. You will ensure that we publish compelling content that builds interest, provides utility, and establishes Nylas as a thought leader in the appropriate spaces.

What You'll Do

  • Implement, instrument, grow, manage, and report on all technical content channels; for example, our developer blog, our developer newsletter, YouTube, and Twitch
  • Build and execute the narrative strategy: producing content series and one-off pieces, sourcing from internal and external authors, engaging and growing our influencer program, securing external opportunities for guest blogging, etc.
  • Tactical content production and execution: thought-partnering with content contributors on story and structure, content editing, sourcing assets, content calendar management, creating a submission process for contributors, setting and tracking CTAs based on business objectives, etc.
  • Collaborate with product marketing to ensure our content is amplified to the right developer audiences in the right places
  • Measure channel growth and content performance, with aims to grow awareness through impressions and content views, and grow active developers and community members through CTA engagements
  • Manage Nylas’ stable of technical freelance writers to ensure our quality bar is met and that freelancers are empowered to do their best work at scale

What You'll Bring

  • 7+ year track record of success in delivering developer content that performs.
  • You take pride in building content engines that sing. You already know how to establish, run, measure, and optimize all or most of what has been mentioned in this job description: blogs, newsletters, influencer engagements, contractor engagements, and more. You’ll have suggestions for freelancers and agencies we could potentially work with to keep the content pipeline full of quality pieces.
  • You don’t need team leadership to be involved tactically day-to-day, but you are open to direction, thought partnership, and collaboration, and you can course-correct as the metrics and business objectives evolve.
  • Technical writing/content creation experience: E.g., blog, newsletter, video, streaming, etc. + knowledge of associated metrics
  • Cross-functional collaboration experience: E.g., working with PMs, PMMs, Eng, sales, etc.
  • Customer collaboration experience: E.g., content co-authoring, case studies, troubleshooting
  • Coding skill: At around a bootcamp graduate level or above
  • Preferred: at least one backend language (preferred: Java, Python, Ruby, Node.js) and basic front-end competency (HTML, CSS, JavaScript)
  • Approach to work: Prioritize ownership and execution, Embody developer empathy, Favor tactics that scale, Know and own your metrics, Strive for business impact
