Production Editor
As Production Editor, you will support the Production & Editorial team in a variety of functions required to produce and manage physical and digital print, audio, video, and software products. The Production Editor: serves as the intermediary between product-line editors and other departments such as Purchasing, Marketing, etc.; facilitates production of new products both physical and digital; proofreads and copy edits product content and marketing collateral created for new products.
You will sit directly with the Production & Editorial Team, work in close collaboration with Marketing, Sales, and Purchasing Teams and report to the Manager, Production.
Core Functions:
- Administer, organize, and monitor new projects through the editorial and production process.
- Project manage new product: create/proofread covers in InDesign, track status using Google docs, send titles to print or digital delivery platforms, and review printer proofs and approval copies.
- Administer, monitor, process, and proof reprints to ensure products are up to date and in stock.
- Handle administrative functions related to sending projects to print, including requesting quotes from purchasing, coordinating file uploads with artists and engravers, sending notifications, and sending instructions for archiving and web assets to project members.
- Responsible for scheduling and leading art kickoff meetings, complete creative briefs and prepare copy, facilitate the exchange of proofs and revisions.
- Engrave music for publication as needed.
- Copy edit new print projects for accuracy; format text, including style sheeting, to maintain house style.
- Produce book interiors and graphics using InDesign, Illustrator, and Photoshop to support the Production team as needed.
- Review proofs at various stages of production.
- Create and maintain new product records in FileMaker and submit new contracts to the purchasing and business affairs departments.
- Proof new products for SmartMusic to ensure quality standards.
- Work closely with an assortment of internal and external personnel, including editors, designers, authors/composers, educators, performers, software developers.
- Administer production and editorial invoices.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Music.
- Strong knowledge of music notation.
- Ability to multitask with a keen eye for detail.
- Excellent writing and editing skills; in-depth knowledge of grammar and punctuation.
- Strong organizational skills.
- Strong verbal communication skills.
- Proficiency using Google Workspace tools, Adobe Creative Cloud (including InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator, Acrobat, Distiller), Microsoft Office (including Outlook, Word, Excel), and FileMaker.
Desired Qualifications:
- Experience with project management.
- Thorough and varied knowledge of music.
- Proficiency with Excel or similar spreadsheet software.
- Experience working in a deadline-driven environment.
- Familiarity with language style guides, especially the Chicago Manual of Style.
- Familiarity with style sheeting.
- Prior experience in print publishing.

Compensation:
Peaksware/Alfred Music is committed to fair and equitable compensation practices. The hourly range for this role is $17.12 - $28.54. Final compensation for this role will be determined by various factors such as a candidate's relevant work experience, skills, and certifications.
This role is eligible for variable compensation including bonus.

Work Environment:
This job operates in a professional office environment that is well-lighted, heated, and/or air-conditioned with adequate ventilation and a noise level that is usually moderate. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers and filing cabinets.
