As the Chief Architect at Daxko / Zen Planner you are an essential part of further establishing and growing our platform presence. You’ll demonstrate great balance between managing and maintaining legacy architectures, while iteratively evolving those architectures towards more current technologies. What do we mean by more current technologies? Well, think… Distributed Architectures – Micro Services – Event Driven Technologies – Real Time Data Streams – Containerization – NoSQL data storage – AI/Machine Learning – Wearables. Nothing is off limits! We’re looking for someone who is excited to unleash the architecture of their dreams using an iterative, responsible, “best tool for the job” approach.

Our Ideal Candidate:

  • You’re comfortable doing research and proof of concept work, great at documenting and diagramming solutions to complex software engineering problems, but also extremely capable when it comes to actually building and delivering solutions in a production environment. In other words, you enjoy thinking big and solving problems on a whiteboard, but when the time comes, you aren’t above leading the delivery charge in a very “hands on” way.
  • You will report to the Chief Technology Officer (CTO) and directly manage a small group of Solutions Architects, each of whom is responsible for specific segments of our platform.
  • As we engage in M&A activities, you and your team will also participate in due diligence activities, under the guidance of the CTO. Therefore, we need you to be a pragmatic architect, who truly understands the value of established systems, and who is capable of designing and implementing architectures that couple the best of what we have with the best of what we are building.
  • You illustrate steady growth and career progression as an engineer who has placed an emphasis on becoming an architect level professional and leader. Your ability to successfully influence, coach, and mentor engineers on the technology front, as well as other stakeholders, is critical.

You’ll be tasked with:

  • Directly managing our team of senior architects, who in turn lead and manage their own teams
  • Mentoring, coaching and training other Architects and Software Engineers
  • Overseeing the architectural direction of the organization as a whole, under the direction of the CTO
  • Directing development of central services leveraged by all lines of business, for example, our payments platform and our analytics platform
  • Helping Architects, Engineers and Business representatives solve complex software engineering problems
  • Staying abreast of current and emerging technologies and tools
  • Evaluating and developing proofs of concept as appropriate
  • Making data-driven recommendations about technologies or tools we may want to leverage, for what purpose, and what return
  • Taking the lead on key software engineering initiatives, when needed, under the guidance of the CTO
  • Participating in M&A activities, as needed, under the guidance of the CTO

You Should Have:

  • Master’s Degree in Computer Science or equivalent experience and knowledge
  • 10+ Years progressive experience as a software engineer
  • 3+ Years in an architectural role
  • Agile/SCRUM
  • Broad technology exposure across a variety of technology stacks, including expert knowledge of several programming languages (Java, C#, Scala, Python, JavaScript, etc.)
  • Proven ability to provide architectural recommendations and guidance
  • Track record of key contributions to enterprise level SaaS applications
  • Familiarity with imperative and functional programming paradigms
  • Demonstrated success leading engineering teams
  • Ability to profile and performance tune web applications and associated infrastructure
  • Ability to implement scalable patterns
  • Current working familiarity with common public cloud providers (Amazon, Microsoft, Google, etc.), as well as other approaches to hosting, such as colocation or private cloud

You’re a Top Candidate if You Also Have Experience with:

  • Event driven technologies
  • Micro services
  • Data stream technologies (Kafka preferred)
  • Post relational databases (NonRelational, Cache, Elastic storage, etc.)
  • Container technologies (Docker, Swarm, Kubernetes, etc.)
  • API interaction designs (REST, GraphQL, Webhooks)
