April 17, 2015 (Golden, Colo.)— On Thursday, April 23, 20 Denver Public Schools students interested in a career in technology from Lincoln High School and West Career Academy will attend the Career Connections program at HomeAdvisor, the largest digital technology company in Colorado. During the program, the students will gain hands-on experience in programming by learning how to code a simple task: scrambling an egg. Additionally, the students will gain knowledge of user experience jobs by using HomeAdvisor’s onsite testing facility to assess a popular pizza delivery website.

The Colorado Technology Foundation (CTF) leads the Career Connections program. CTF has partnered with Denver Public Schools’ Youth Career Connect program to equip students with high-demand skills and connect them to opportunities for continued education and careers in Colorado’s competitive technology industry. CTF is the philanthropic arm of the Colorado Technology Association that bridges companies to STEM education, technology and workforce programs in Colorado. CTF exists to make it easy for companies to meaningfully engage in the community to create the future workforce they need.

“Over 60 students have participated this year, and 100 percent said that the program motivated them to consider a career in a technology field,” said Alexandra West, Director of CTF. “All of the students agreed that the experience helped them understand how what they are learning in high school applies to the work world.”

“We are hiring many technology positions this year, including more than 20 developers, and it’s not always easy to find qualified people to fill our growing demand,” said Shannon Garcia-Lewis, HomeAdvisor’s Vice President of Human Resources and Staffing. “Supporting programs such as Career Connections is important to HomeAdvisor as they help build pipelines for future technology professionals.”
