Company Spotlight: Havenly

We make it our business to stay informed about what our startup companions are up to, both in the news and within the confines of their slick office spaces. Online interior design company, Havenly, sits at the top of our ‘must-know about’ list. We had the chance to sit down with Lee Mayer, Havenly’s CEO & founder, to talk about what makes Havenly such a great place to work. To put it simply, she makes employee happiness a priority.

Simple. Fun. Affordable.

When Havenly launched in 2014 Lee’s mission was to solve a problem. The problem they’re tackling is how to stylize your home without breaking the bank or spending hours on end browsing home décor sites, in hopes that everything fits together when it arrives at your front door. Havenly makes it fun and easy to decorate any space. The user pays a flat design rate (starting at $79/room), completes a simple survey on stylistic preferences, speaks with a designer then receives personalized suggestions for the space. If you like what you see, you can purchase products at Havenly’s negotiated rates, for a one-stop shopping experience.

Culture is king.

With Havenly now two years old, Mayer says a commitment to creating a company employees want to work at is what gets her out of bed. Havenly employees don’t run for the door at 5pm, instead they hang around the office for daily happy hours. Havenly has built an environment of fun and a strong team of employees who genuinely enjoy what they do. As Lee puts it, “Life is hard if you can’t laugh about it. At Havenly, you’re either funny or you have a good sense of humor.”

Mayer explains that the most important aspect of building a strong culture at Havenly lies in their hiring strategy. They put a precedence on not just adding smart and qualified candidates to join their team, but on finding employees who are a good fit culturally. To ensure new hires fit the mold, they are invited to team events and introduced to multiple members on the team before  they’re offered a position.

What are some of the perks you can look forward to, working at Havenly?

This pet friendly (and obviously chic) office, is stocked with healthy snacks and catered lunch three times a week. Working late? They’ll front the bill on dinner. Feel free to take some well deserved time off with their ‘take-what-you-need’ vacation policy. On top of mental well being, Havenly shows concern for employee’s physical well being. They useThrivePass to offer various health and wellness benefits to their team.

As you may have guessed, the best perk of working at an interior design startup is the unlimited access to design resources. Havenly rewards employees with “Havenly Bucks” on employment anniversaries. Havenly bucks can be used to purchase swanky products off their platform.

Be apart of it.
