Colorado Shines at Global Innovation Competition

This year, Denver hosted the regional competition of the Global Innovation in Sports Competition. Hundreds of startups across the country applied to compete at Sports Authority Field Mile High, and just 10 were selected.

Among the ten finalists are three Colorado startups: Boulder-based STRYD and Team Snap, as well as Denver-based Recoup Fitness. The ten finalists will pitch their businesses to the country’s top sports executives and investors, professional athletes, and successful entrepreneurs. The winner of the Denver competition will go on to pitch at the Rio at the Olympic Games, with a chance to win €100,000.

The Denver competition is hosted by Boulder’s own Black Lab Sports, who has directors from the Denver Broncos, the Foundry Group, and Techstars. The company calls themselves a sports accelerator and entrepreneurial arm for athletes. Black Lab Sports invests their time, money and staff in innovations that solve problems for athletes, fans and teams.

The Global Innovation in Sports Competition is the largest global startup competition with 46 participating countries and 71,600 innovators and entrepreneurs focusing on innovation in sport. The competition was created by the Hype Foundation, with a goal to bring together the best entrepreneurs worldwide, focused on building innovative products and technologies that causes groundbreaking change in sports industry.
