As our clients integrate the Documents Hub into their app and connect to all of the leading cloud file storage services through one API, it has become clear that a pre-built user interface would accelerate their time to market. Continuing to uphold our mission of making developer’s lives easier, we built our first free and open source project, Filebrowser.io, to solve this problem by creating a user interface for them to build into their product.

Filebrowser.io is a cloud file browser that integrates seamlessly into your application, allowing your customers to access all of their files without ever leaving your app. Filebrowser.io is powered by the Cloud Elements Documents Hub, connecting your app to the leading cloud document services BoxDropboxGoogle Drive and Microsoft OneDrive.

WHY WE BUILT IT

At Cloud Elements, we believe the future of integration is in enabling developers to build and deliver “Cooperative Apps”, apps that connect seamlessly with other leading cloud services.

“As the new breed of iPaaS, Cloud Elements has focused on making developers more productive in building applications that easily connect with lots of other cloud services and therefore, we will be offering all of our UIs for free and open source,” said Mark Geene, CEO and co-founder of Cloud Elements.

The purpose of Filebrowser.io is to accelerate the integration of document services into the user interface of an app that a developer is building. Filebrowser.io’s open source code allows developers to use the UI directly in their application, saving the time and cost of custom development by streamlining the use of the Cloud Elements APIs.

WHAT IT DOES

Filebrowser.io simplifies the use of leading cloud file storage services. Use the library in your application to upload and download files, as well as, view thumbnails and details of those files across multiple services. All while using a simple and unique user interface that embeds seamlessly into your application and can be easily customized to the look and feel of your brand.

Using the Cloud Elements Documents Hub with Filebrowser.io, you can connect to leading cloud document services all through one API and then access them using Filebrowser.io. The user interface greatly helps our client’s customers access files across multiple providers. Your customers will love having one platform to view and access all of their cloud stored files in one place.

HOW IT WORKS

Filebrowser.io is written in JavaScript and leverages easy-to-implement technologies, such as node.js and jQuery. It connects to the leading cloud file storage services by creating Cloud Elements instances. The library uses node.js on the backend to connect to the Cloud Elements API without exposing any keys or tokens to outside world, making the integration more secure.

Filebrowser.io is fully documented on GitHub and is open source using the Apache 2.0 license. You can use our source code to enable Filebrowser.io to work with your application. If you do, let us know! We would love to feature your app on our site.
