Climbing the Ranks: Carving out a Career path in Sales by Learning From the Best

Trustpilot Office

The Trustpilot Culture series continues with another successful internal promotion story on our Sales team featuring our very own Jillian Sternberg. Similar to the path taken by our sales reps in NYC, Jillian has risen to the top of our Denver office by sheer willpower and below she talks about her path to success as well as gives some advice to others considering a career in Sales.

Not only one of our local success stories in Denver but also a cultural staple of the office, Jillian Sternberg is an ideal Trustpilot employee: she works hard, is serious about her work and loves to have fun. She has risen through the ranks of our Sales team in Denver from an Account Development Representative (ADR) to an Account Executive (AE) and now to a Senior AE, all fueled by her own personal drive and ambition to be successful. We are proud to encourage all employees at Trustpilot in all markets to grow their careers here and Jillian’s story is a great example of what you can make happen if you’re driven to be successful.

Trustpilot Talent: How has your career path been supported by Trustpilot?

Jillian: The company has supported my career goals by giving me achievable targets to hit as well as the training to get there - all I had to do was put in the work. I was promoted in 9 months from an ADR to an AE and then from AE to Senior AE in another 4 months, all because I followed the process in front of me and put the work in to hit the targets that the company gave me. I’m really excited about my future at Trustpilot b/c everything I was sold from day 1 about what this job could be has come true. If I do my part, the company will definitely do theirs.

TT: What are your favorite parts of working at Trustpilot?

J: The thing that I love most about working at Trustpilot is the community aspect of the office culture. In previous jobs I never worked in a very social environment and from my first day at Trustpilot I felt welcomed and immediately made friends that I will have forever. The even cooler part is that it’s not just in Denver that the culture is important, it’s a global initiative for the company. I was able to go on our President’s Club trip earlier this year and got to know Trustpilot employees from all over the world to the point that now I truly feel like I can travel to London or Copenhagen, or anywhere in the world for that matter, and I'd have a friend to rely on. A global community is definitely not an asset every company can say they have and I feel really lucky to be a part of it at Trustpilot.

TT: What advice would you give to someone considering the ADR to AE to SAE career path?

J: The best advice I can give is to take initiative. What I love about being in Sales is that you have full control over your success. If you want to be the best, take the initiative: ask as many questions as you can, get time with those folks who have experience crushing it at the Trustpilot game, and never stop learning. If ever you feel down on your numbers or the headway you're making, double down on what you can control. Whether that's a few more dials, a couple more emails, or anything else, take the initiative to set yourself up for success.

TT: What has been your favorite moment at Trustpilot?

J: There have been so many awesome moments for me at Trustpilot but my favorite was winning the "Breakout Performer" award at President's Club in Punta Cana. I remember when I first started how much I admired the top Sales people and how it seemed like I had such a long road ahead of me to get to their level. It seemed like there was so much to learn and I wasn't sure I would be able to learn it fast enough but I knew what I wanted and I knew what I needed to do to make it happen. Standing on that beautiful beach in Punta Cana and getting recognized by our CEO and all the other top performers at Trustpilot that I looked up to was definitely a surreal feeling and one that I will remember for the rest of my career.

Jillian’s drive and ambition to deliver results have made her a top performer not only in the Denver office but in Trustpilot’s 7 global offices as well. Her rise to international Sales Stardom is very well deserved and our Management Team in Denver has been quoted as looking for Jillian clones around the Greater Denver area to grow the office.
