Fort Collins-based bulb, the app that makes it easy to structure and publish content online, raised $1 million last week from “a select group of interested investors," David Runkles, Director of Strategy and Product Design, said.

The round will go towards accelerating product development for the app that is used by educators and students (and many others) to share ideas with small private groups instead of publishing it to the world.

“We are focused on rolling out our mobile and responsive infrastructure to make bulb just as easy from phones as it is from desktops and tablets,” Runkles said. “We are very excited about our new tools that will let anyone create fully responsive, beautiful, and media rich content from any device.

The company was founded by CSU grads and brothers David and John Runkles after they sold their software development firm Ssuru. They tapped some of the Ssuru developers to help them develop bulb because they were looking to fill the gap left by Learning Management Systems and other education software.

Bulb, a “digital portfolio” of sorts, was the answer: it lets users see what others are learning while giving and asking for recommendations. A Pro version of bulb allows for features like private groups and larger file storage. Essentially bulb lets users build their very own “learning community” and over 15,000 have already.
