Nate & Natty’s story is a really important one, because it demonstrates that anybody can become an entrepreneur. -- Mark Solon, Managing Partner at Techstars

Techstars graduates & founders of Everlater, Nate Abbott & Natty Zola, have been featured in the Startup Stories series (which has also covered another Colorado startup: SendGrid).

In this short video, Nate & Natty share their experience creating & eventually selling, Everlater.

One of the key takeaways for me was that neither Nate, nor Natty came from typical technical backgrounds. They grew up in Boulder, and took jobs on Wall Street after college. Once they grew tired of that scene, they decided to leave & just travel the world for a time.

When they returned, they wanted to build a way for people to easily share their travel experience with others. But neither of them knew how to code. So, they bought a few books, taught themselves Ruby & began turning their idea into reality.

It was this drive & independence that really piqued the interest of people like David Cohen (founder of Techstars).

Their “let's get it done” attitude is a great example for the rest of us. It dovetails nicely into this post from New York VC, Fred Wilson, where he tells entrepreneurs "if you aren’t technical, get technical."

Nate & Natty also discuss how they pivoted about 2 years after they graduated from Techstars, and how it was that pivot which helped lead to Everlater’s acquisition by MapQuest in November of last year (where they've been working on developing new products ever since). The video is 8 minutes well spent!
