5 Ways To Help Your Community!

What does community mean to you?

definition of community:

"a group of people living in the same place or having a particular characteristic in common," or "a feeling of fellowship with others, as a result of sharing common attitudes, interests, and goals."

But community isn't just created by having something in common with somebody - it's also created through camaraderie and acts of kindness.

Here at Fluid, community means togetherness, being neighborly and sharing. Even though helping your community may seem overwhelming or time consuming, making a positive impact in your community can be easy and fun!

Take a look at these 5 tips below on how to help your own!

Buy your food from local vendors (farmer's markets are always great, and everything's in season!) Shop at local businesses whenever you can, like boutiques or independently owned shops. It's so easy to head towards the bargain chain store, but remember that in the long run quality will matter the most. Knowing that your money will go toward helping your local economy and building a strong, vibrant community is worth the extra effort and cost.

Local Staff Favorites:

Ashlee: I love our local neighborhood wine store: Corks. Glenn and his staff are always super helpful and friendly! Plus they have great prices and also support local events! Thanks Glenn!

Niki: I love the farmer's markets around Denver, especially the Highlands and Union Station ones!

2. Tidy Up

It can be as easy as grabbing a trash bag, and walking around your neighborhood picking up litter. It'll help beautify your community, and you'll get a little bit of exercise! If you have more time on your hands, paint chipped fences or cover graffiti in public areas. It can make a huge difference in the feel of your community.

3. Volunteer

According to the Corporation for National Community Service, only 25.3 percent of Americans volunteer - so as the holidays are approaching, more organizations are looking for people to help.

Volunteer for an organization you're passionate about - whether it's at a food bank, Goodwill center, animal shelter or even a beach/park clean up day. Use a website like VolunteerMatch to find volunteering opportunities in your area. An extra hand can make a huge difference!

4. Create a Home Garden

Building a home garden and sharing your crops are a great way to bring people together! You can get the kids involved and have everybody choose their own vegetables and flowers to plant. After you've grown some yummy vegetables or pretty flowers, share them with your neighbors as a gift!

5. Borrow, Don't Buy

Instead of reaching for your wallet the next time you need something, why not try Fluid? You're reusing and recycling the resources in your community, and saving money at the same time. And back to #1, you're helping the local economy by helping your neighbor make money. Moreover, you'll make tons of new friends by lending and borrowing through the app!
