4 Emerging Startups to Watch (and all founded by women)

It's always exciting to learn about new companies in the Denver Startup Scene.

Code was lucky enough to learn about 10 emerging startups, founded by women, based in Colorado, last night at the Women Who Startup pitch night. Although there was no prize for the winners, they got the opportunity to showcase their company, practice their pitch, and receive feedback from experienced entrepreneurs.

Here were the winners of last night's competition:

School Deets (tied for 1st place)

School Deets provides a streamlined, multilingual technology platform to connect teachers, administrators, club organizers and parents through one platform. Their mobile app has a built in translator for non-english speaking parents as well as a communication center that sends out newsletters, reminders, and announcements.

Rather than getting information from multiple sources (and not being sure which one is actually correct), SchoolDeets puts all of the information in one, universal place making it easier for schools to communicate, connect, and engage all stakeholders.

Winking Girl Foods (tied for 1st place)

Winking Girl Foods currently has two product lines: salsa and skillet sauces. The products of Winking Girl are not only unique and zesty, but also healthy and easy to incorporate in any meal. The founder, Julie, has been making the product for years, but it all started when she began selling her products in local farmers market. Next thing she knew, Winking Girl products got picked up in over 2,000 retailers nationwide.

Keep an eye out for her product in Whole Foods and Sprouts!

Purple Slate (tied for 3rd place)

Purple Slate is a mobile invite application that makes getting together easier. The main feature of the app is their personalized text-based invitations, which are better reminders than those annoying Facebook notifications or emails. The mission of Purple Slate is simple: simplify and organize a very basic human need: a need for meeting people who matter in our lives.

Founded by Neha Mohta, the application also includes instant RSVPs, interactive features, and chat. No more event invitations from multiple websites and platforms, Purple Slate makes it more efficient and organized to plan or attend events.

NerdNest (tied for 3rd place)

NerdNest is a fangirl site--fangirl is another word for comics/sci-fi/anime nerds. The goal of the website is to be a safe space for fangirls, exclusively, to create, share and collaborate content. The fangirl nation spends 25-60 hours a week online creating and sharing content within the fandom category.

NerdNest wants to be the one platform for these fangirls and their content, as at the moment, content is dispersed randomly across various social media sites: there is no platform specifically for fangirls.

NerdNest was founded by Raine Giorgio who developed the app for NerdNest in a Gateway to Business course at the University of Denver.

The website and application are currently under construction.
