5 startups bringing you whatever you need — whenever you need it

It may not have sounded great coming from the mouth of Veruca Salt, but as tech and other industries have evolved, more and more of us find ourselves saying, “I want it now!”

Whether you’re looking for fresh dinner ingredients or a place to store all your junk — and someone to do the heavy lifting — these on-demand startups are here to cater to you.

Though they’re based in Philadelphia, goPuff’s been growing rapidly in Denver since it’s launch earlier this year. Through their app or website, you can order everything from food to cleaning supplies and even a cheese grater. They deliver from their own warehouses, so inventory on the app is always up to date (no need for substitutions) and they promise delivery times of 30 minutes or fewer.

Boulder’s Green Chef delivers chef-prepared, USDA-certified organic ingredients straight to your door. You can customize your orders based on dietary preferences, like whether you’re vegan or follow a gluten-free diet. Your weekly box comes with recipes designed to take just 30 minutes to cook. And delivery is on your terms — you can decide what day your food arrives and skip weeks when you want to.

Another out-of-state company makin’ moves in the Colorado market is alcohol-delivery service Drizly. Based in Boston, the company’s been in Colorado for a while now, bringing libations to customers in Boulder, Denver and Fort Collins. They work with local liquor stores like Hazel’s and Argonaut, so you know you’re getting a good selection — and that some of the funds are staying local. And they’ve recently partnered with Denver’s Ibotta, giving you 7.5 percent cash back when you order using their app.

Whether you’re moving into a smaller space or just want to declutter without purging entirely, Denver-based Closetbox can help you out. They’ll send someone to your door to pick up your stuff, and then they’ll store it for you. From small items like boxes to larger couches and dressers, they’ll take care of everything — and when you decide you want your stuff back? They’ll deliver it for free, too. You can track the status of all of your belongings with their online dashboard, ensuring the security of all your stuff.

Before they were part of Baltimore-based OrderUp (and before OrderUp was part of Groupon), the Colorado-created top trio of on-demand online ordering — HungryBuffs, HungryRams and MileHighMenus — captured the hearts and stomachs of college students and late-night diners along the Front Range. Fortunately, the sites are still alive and kickin’, now with the support of OrderUP’s tech platform.
