Love is in the air: 5 of Colorado's most romantic startups

In an industry full of buzzwords like "agile," "disruptive" and "productivity hack," "romance" often isn't the first thing that comes to mind when thinking of startups. But we also know startups can go beyond the techiest of categories — some even hope to add a little spark to consumers' love lives. These Colorado companies are working to fan the flames of romance this Valentine's Day, and all year long.

Dreaming of a romantic mountain getaway? Instead of staying in a tiny hotel room, book a private property with Evolve Vacation Rental Network, a Denver company. Evolve works with homeowners to book and manage short-term vacation rentals. You can search properties by location, property type, price and more to find the perfect romantic lodging for you and your sweetheart. They have properties available all around Colorado, from San Juan to Boulder — and homeowners looking for some spare fancy dinner cash can even rent out their own homes through the network.

Founded by a Colorado couple, Boulder-based startup Kindara developed an app to help couples conceive (or avoid pregnancy). The app works using the fertility awareness method, or FAM. It's a form of family planning based on tracking a woman's fertility cycles using variables like basal body temperature. Kindara has been applauded for empowering couples to take control of their reproductive health with a hands-on approach free of hormones or chemicals. The app is available for iOS and Android for free, and a hardware product called Wink, which acts as a thermometer that syncs with the app, is in development with a pre-order price of $99.

What do you get for the partner who has everything? A stunning Colorado experience they're sure not to forget. Wishlist recently relocated from Boulder to Denver, and they're changing the way Coloradans spoil the ones we love. Simply select a gift category, like "Colorado Urban Living" or "Colorado Adrenaline," and your recipient will have the opportunity to choose an experience from the robust list of options under each category. Experiences range from a massage or dance lessons to a hot air balloon ride or a 2-night luxury getaway in Vail.

Picking out lingerie for that special someone can be a bit of a challenge, especially if the relationship is new or she's lost or gained weight recently. Enter The T*Bar, a Boulder-based e-commerce platform. On The T*Bar's website, you can use the "Build Your Babe" tool to take some of the guesswork out of finding the right naughty negligee. The tool builds size, personality and style into the equation to give you the best results. The T*Bar carries a number of lingerie brands like Claudette and Dirty Pretty Things, giving you plenty of options for adding some spice to your post-dinner plans.

Refresh your love nest and surprise your sweetheart with a bedroom makeover from recent Mergelane graduates, Denver's Havenly. Using their website, answer a few questions about your style, how much furniture you want and some of your favorite brands. Havenly then appoints an interior designer just for you, who will get to work selecting items for your new room. Havenly partners with stores like West Elm and Design Within Reach to give you the best prices on furniture and décor, and their designers' expertise is available starting at $79. With their complete design package, they'll even purchase items for you so you can save time online and spend more time canoodling.
